First of all, for this deal to come through, the IAF tender must result in Lockheed Martin winning. That is by no means certain. The tender could go to Saab of Sweden or any other capable manufacturer.

when us is planning for 5th generation or 6th generation fighter jets for air superiority and dominance then why tata is looking for sale in india and maintenance overseas for the 4th generation jets .Is india a scrape yard or to be remain laggards.is f16 turned 6th generation jets. west sales scrapes and obsolutes tech and equipment to third world countries may be for pea nuts and demostrate later new tech for future sale.why india need f 16 when its unfriendly nations are developing new technology to use it against india. tatas , failed business ,futuristic business and national interest has a wide difference. why dont you invest in 7th generation jets. not a cup of your tea?

F16 or something else

F16may be Americas powerful fighter aircraft, but in the past they were not ready to sell it tio India and at the same time selling to pakistan in large numbers.US secretary of state Kissinger under Nixon administration was against INDIA and his gun-boat diplomacy failed to restrain India from waging war with pakistan and ultimate liberation of Bangladesh. We have bear in mind that the single seater fighterGNATT; indegenously made, was capable of taking this Propounding F16

Correction. The Gnats took on the F-86 Sabres and the F-104 Starfighter. The F-16 was not yet built then.
