India today need long term procurement policy which helps it strengthen its make in india policy as well as creates a long term relationship with countries based on mutual trust, common principles and mutual benefits and share value system. Its time India join hands with democratic countries around the world to create world class weapons design, development and manufacturing institutions through joint ventures, technical collaborations. Russia gave India rude shock when it denied India cryogenic technology due to the pressure from USA. Today we have come a long way and don't depend on Russia to that extend. Its now Russia's turn to come to our door for selling their arms as its economy is not what it used to be 20 years back. Hence we should negotiate terms and conditions with Russia which suits our interest, the way it did for Brahmos.
