What is law?
by Vijay Sahani on Jan 23, 2017 02:10 PM  | Hide replies

Law has not morality. It is there for convenience of governance.

If SC bans non-vegetarian food it will create a governance issue.

If animals torture is allowed that too will create governance issue.

If jallikattu is to be allowed it should be allowed with conditions so that the torture part is taken away from it.

Yes because is there anything more cruel than killing? Torturing is but then if bull is taken care of well there will not be much issue
Recognize it as a game, form a board and some rules so that it is not tortured and it is played as a game and not like extra violent stuff. This requires some work from govt so they think banning is better. As usual govt wants to do easy things only

I have no view of whether Jallikattu should be banned or not. If Hon'ble SC says it is torturing animals i will go alongwith that. I'm sure SC has gone into the details. Questioning SC's order because we don't like the order is like some Muzl!ms objecting to the hanging to Yakub Memon.

All i'm saying that we cannot connect non-vegetarianism with torture. They are two different things. If one is allowed doesn't mean the other should be allowed too.

besides, here the larger issue is whether we have rule of law or not. Both sides presented the case to the Hon'ble SC. One side won the other lost. There the matter should rest.

Of course political solution is possible but it has it's own ramifications such as similar protests on other such SC rulings which are not to the liking of political parties (a la Shah Bano case).

All Kamal Hassan and myself are saying is that if jallikattu is considered torture by SC killing and eating also should be considered torture and banned. SC ought to be fair I think

In other words if SC allows non-vegetarian food then it should allow torture of animals too?

No measures can be taken for avoiding torture...not sure why you like killing of animals and eating but not a game including animals

Ujjwal Nikam, the public prosecutor of Kasab, has admitted that Kasab never asked for Biryani and that it was fabricated by him "to break an emotional atmosphere which was taking shape in favour of Kasab during the trial of the case".
