BILATERAL TRADE ISSUES AND ILLEGAL CPEC CORRIDOR MORE IMPORTANT
by damodaran mohan on Feb 20, 2017 05:59 PM  | Hide replies

India is ought to stress its point with China on both NSG and Masood Azar issues during the strategic dialogue on international and regional issues. But the question is can India do anything to change China's stand in India's favor? The answer is no. Thus instead of keep harping on some unproductive multilateral issues why not stress on more fruitful and hold urgent negotiations on bilateral issues that are seriously undermining India's influence in the region and growth.1.China is violating Indian sovereignty by building the illegal CPEC corridor through the Indian territory of POK under dispute w/o permission from India. Thus China must stop all works on the corridor to demobilize and vacate POK forthwith failing which India will have the sovereign right to protect its territory as China claims in SCS. 2. Next is the most important issue of unequal economic war against India with trade imbalance at over $50billion. So at Industry level our indigenous services and manufacturing sector in steel, infrastructure, electronic goods, laptops, smart phones etc. need to be preferred over import from China besides increasing exportable goods and services from India to China wherever India has better capabilities like in IT, Pharma sector etc.3.The Chinese "flooding" and dumping strategy of low quality cheap goods in the Indian market especially during festival seasons forcing closure of MSME sectors .

(contd.) Besides, the poor local artisans, craftsmen, potters etc. losing jobs being unable to compete with the China giant. This is doing incalculable damage to our lower working class population in the informal sector producing more inequality and harming our society. Why should Chinese crackers, toys, Ganesh& Laxmi idols be allowed to be exported from China? Simply ridiculous. India has to put a total ban on import of these items from China to protect our small scale sector. If No.1 country like U.S. can be protectionist on trade and commerce why not India? Thus the strategic dialogue with China should be more bilateral oriented than on multilateral issues.
