Nehru should not have given refuge to the Dalai Lama at all !
And Nehru should not have clung to the British drawn McMahon Line and tried to impose it as the International border without any regard for the history of some of the regions along that line !
The refuge and asylum given to the Dalai Lama and the insistence of Nehru to include certain remote regions in the distant corners of Arunachal Pradesh (which were never part of any Indian kingdom including the several different domains of the kingdom of Kamarup) in India are the two reasons why China assaulted India in 1962.
Both these steps of Nehru were historic blunders !
And he made China a powerful and perhaps perennial enemy leading to the sapping of Indias begging bowl revenues in engaging itself in a desperate arms raxce with it !
Whatever the author may say about PLA gettiung trained to fight in Tibet Against the Tibetian Resistance, there are some facts that need to be highlighted. 1) PLA had been fighting a civil war from 1942 till 1950 against Nationalist Chinese troops of Chiang Kai Shek.. 2) PlA was also involved in Korean War from 1950 to 1954. 3) The war against the Tibetian Resistance was not a conventional war. It as a fight against the local resistance. The argument that Mao trained PLA to fight India does not hold any substance. The PLA had a numerical superiority of 4:1 against Indian Forces. The were very well equipped with supporting arms. The Author has tried to cover failure of Nehrus foriegn policy and his firm faith that PLA would never attack Indian Army. Both failed miserably sacrifying thousands of brave Indian Jawans for no fault of theirs. There are dozens books by Indian Soldiers who fought in 1962. The best one is by Brig. Dalvi who commanded the ill-fated 7th Brigade at Dhola. The first shots were fired at Dhola in October 1962 and the 7th Brigade bore the brunt of the first PLA assault.
It was a shameful defeat in 1962 and those of us in undivided Assam, Nehru's words, after Tezpur town fell into the hands of the Chinese `My heart goes out to the people of Assam' was really painful. Is it any wonder that people of the North east feel so alienated even today?
1962 passed, think about today, Indian soldiers are keen to take revenge from China of 1962 failures, at that time, we were not having even arms to fight. Against 4 Chinese solders 1 Indian soldier was fighting.

As on today also India has only 50% of the Chinese Army - India has 13 lacs and China has 30 lacs. India cannot go for a fighting with China!
