The Congress did not bring RTI. Just like the BJP, it regarded it with fear and as an impediment for its corrupt acts.
Enactment of the RTI act was part of the CMP (common minimum program) agreed upon by the Congress as a condition for the left front to support the Congress led UPA I in 2004, when the Congress had to depend on the left front to form a govt.
Subsequently, the MMS govt tried to bring in an amendment to dilute the provisions of the RTI act but failed when the left front threatened it with withdrawal of support to UPA I.
The UPA II, which did not have the left front as a partner, duly diluted the RTI act by hugely increasing the no of exemptions.
Subsequently, the BJP led by Modi, adopted the back door approach of not appointing officials in thousands of RTI posts when they fell vacant to delay or refuse RTI answers to the public !
Both the Congress and the BJP have always been against anything like a proper RTI system that helps in bringing transparency and accountability in governance !

agree. need a strong alternative to both BJP and congress. Both are failures.
One day will come when all the RTI activists will be declared anti national acting against the nation's interests. Is the term RTI a misnomer now ? This is part of democracy now.

RTI read with an NGO ( normally xtina funded with ulterior motive) is a dangerous concoction.
regime, that survives on big corruption and on misleading the gullible general masses with diversionary exercises in religious and caste identity politics, is beginning to show its true nature in more blatant ways !

During UPA rule one young businessman put a comment in FB on Karthi Chidambaram and was arrested. Many murders took place to hide corruption. So do not vomit your ignorant views here. ONGC is there for many decades and not from 2014

And what gives you the impression that I suggested that the UPA was essentially different (though it is clear that komaaaaali Modi is betraying the peoples trust to a higher degree than the Congress used to do), you peabrain ?
Is there anything that is essentially different between the Congress and the BJP, you peabrain ?
Congress or BJP, BJP or Congress... right, little dunce ?

Hey oafish dullard mapilah PIRI, dont talk on the subject you do not know. Your doctoral subject is wayside defecation, fragrance of the stool, difference between goat excrement and human's, farting etc. It seems, you have not completed your course.

Hey, peabrain north Indian ! What do you know about this subject ?
What have you read about it other than RSS handbills and listening to hearsay in your backward north Indian boondocks full of the stuxpidest people on earth ?
Dare to debate with me on the RTI and its enactment and the history of the UPA and the NDA with regards to its observance ?
By the way, you dumbo north Indian, did you even know the full form of RTI before coming across this article ?
And open defecation ?
I went on a trip around north Indian states !
No post graduation is needed now on open defecation !
It was extremely revolting for me, considering that we don't see others excreta here in Kerala (other than on railway tracks) !
But, in your boondock north India, open defecation is the norm everywhere that you are mighty surprised that someone should be talking about it and expressing revulsion, right, you mouth stinking dumbo ?
and they work for them to collect information and pass on to them. As regards this lady, who just joined the group may be not aware of the organisational back ground but started acting on their behalf without realising the seriousness of the information required in detail. This information can be used for destructive purpose as well by the enemies of the country.

We are living in a democracy and not in a police raj. RTI is the only tool available to common man to bring the politicians and the powerful to bring them to book for wrong-doing. It is obvious that ONGC has not followed proper guidelines before drilling wells otherwise the village wells would not have been polluted because of oil seepage. (Have you read the full story?)

making complaint was the correct procedure for the common man instead collecting detailed information on behalf of some unknown masters of the organisation. who may be on roll of foreign enemy agencies.

You should experience Police interrogation once and stop acting naive. PM talks about transparency on one side, and transparency is curbed in actions
RTI is best tool to open corruption and now all political party and bureaucrat want remove thisrule it thanks to UPA to bring such good rule to Country
