'NO, Mr Naidu we would not salute Afzal Guru. Nor would we salute V D Savarkar , who started as a great patriot but halfway down the line became an abject servitor of the British, vowing never to offend them again ,cringing, apologizing and thereby getting a reprieve from his prison sentence

Unlike other patriots like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Ashfaqullah, who refused to ask the British Raj for mercy even at the cost of their lives, Savarkar, the father of the BJP's Hindutva ideology, had actually sought clemency while lodged in Andamans' Cellular Jail.

While begging for clemency, Savarkar wrote to the British government ''Moreover, my conversion to the constitutional line would bring back all those misled young men in India and abroad who were once looking up to me as their guide. I am ready to serve the government in any capacity they like, for as my conversion is conscientious so I hope my future conduct would be. By keeping me in jail, nothing can be got in comparison to what would be otherwise. The Mighty alone can afford to be merciful and, therefore, where else can the prodigal son return but to the parental doors of the government.''

The coward later committed suicide.

He is the hero of BJP / RSS.

They know they won't be able to sell Savarkar as a lau_purush and hence are singing pageans in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a stalwart of Congress party.

Whatever may be the contribution of my family, at least I can assure you that no one begged for clemency from Britishers.

Since you are a bhakt of Savarkar (considering your angry reaction), I seriously think that you and your family must have been as opportunistic as Savarkar.

An article published in the latest edition of NATURE claims that people who drink "contaminated" cow_urin@ suffer from schizophrenia and become violent. Many symptoms are similar to a person suffering rabies_.

Be careful in your drinking.

what would be a reasonable word to describe a cult which went down on its knees before the colonial government and opposed the mass struggle to create an independent nation; a cult which opposed the national flag and the countryâs constitution, and whose âmen expressed joy and distributed sweets afterâ the assassination of a person regarded by the masses as the father of our nation? Are they to be branded as traitors? No. In our times when history is becoming increasingly irrelevant for political discourse, they are the âNationalistsâ. And everyone else is anti-national.

Symbolic patriotism

Those who pretend that they will be called patriots the moment they sing Vande Mataram have something to hide. They are worried that they were not patriotic enough during the independence struggle.

Naidu quit BJP before filing nomination for Vice-President of India.

But being a bhakt you are not supposed to gain knowledge or use your brains. I can understand.
