It is true, there will not be another Sam Manekshaw who had the guts to say NO to Indira Gandhi

Not a yes man or sycophant
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Dec 07, 2017 12:38 PM

The way in which he refused to be rushed into a war with Pak too early and told Mrs gandhi the exact truth regarding the lack of preparedness of the Army at that time is a classic. He also asked for whatever is required to make the Army ready and then got Mrs Gandhi to agree.

In today's climate of encouragement of yes-men and sycophants, it is not possible to have such a man.

I do not know the Field Marshall personally, but I am reminded about the greatest man that I know. He was Mr.G.P.Warrier who was a class 1 officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers. I had the good fortune to join the Railways myself when he was the Chief Engineer of The Southern Railway Construction Branch. I am yet to meet a person of his intelligence, integrity and magnanimity. He never spoke about himself, but many incidents in his career was narrated to me by others. Of course he retired as The Chairman Railway Board - the topmost post on the Railways and led a dignified life till his end. Truly a giant among the pygmies of his time and beyond.

Why the Field Marshal was slighted
by palanki narayana on Dec 07, 2017 11:51 AM  | Hide replies

Manekshaw was once summoned by the defence secretary Shekhar Dutt. The field marshal told the bureaucrat that only the defence minister can summon him and the secretary's job was only to coordinate between the army chief and the cabinet. Piqued by the rebuff, Dutt stopped the dues payable to the chief and APJ Kalaam had to intervene. When the 1.3 crore cheque was received, an ailing Manekshaw sarcastically asked how much tax he has to pay.

The bureaucracy in India is a shame to the country due to their excessive ego and arrogance.. They misuse power and play dirty games with general public who pay their salary to manage their money..They believe that all public money is their fathers' property and abuse all government facilities to the maximum extent. Take any capital city in india, these morons occupy the prime land, they have membership in premimum clubs playing golf and booze.. Their wives run parallel dubious transactions misusing the power.. All governments know this, but are helpless against them.. There are of course few good guys around in the pack of wolves especially the new joinees ..

Manekshaw had a reason to boast or show his ego because he has delivered ( won 1971 war ). He had said that in a lighter mood, even if you take it seriously, then also there is nothing wrong in it. Though you need arms to fig ht a battle nothing can replace the courage, leadership and sense of sacrifice of the men in the firing line. So please stop blaming our heroes.

Who is this Dutt to stop FM Sam's dues ? Is it not a crime to stop someone's dues (because of personal ego ) ? Yes, FM Sam has shown him (Dutt) his limits. Mr Dutt should be thankful to FM Sam that he (Sam) has not dragged him to court.
