Make movie on your ancestors, not of others!
by Greystorm on Dec 06, 2017 03:29 PM

Firstly, who is this author Kishore Singh? I want to study his bio to analyse why he thinks like that.

Then I would want him to imagine that his mother, sisters, wife and daughters are in the territories being attacked by ISIS. Maybe then he might change his viewpoint that in such a situation any brave Indian woman would rather commit Jauhar instead of surrendering her body to be available for brutal gang rapes and torture. But for that decision, you need to have some self-respect, some dignity, some faith, some courage, some patriotism, some sacrifice - and ordinary people like Mr. Kishore do not have that. Don't panic, dear. It is normal. That's why not everyone is a Rajput or a Warrior or a ruler. At least being a good literate human being admire the great historical legends of this country. Even Abraham Lincon's mother expressed desire to have handful of sand of Haldi Ghati where Maharana Pratap fought a fierce battle, but Indians today are much like Shakti Singh (or traitors) who are ready to hurt their own culture, pride and history. As if, we do not want to accept that we were great. We are great. I wish, we get freedom from the shackles of the slavery, as Rabindra Nath Tagore wrote. Still if you want to make a movie, make it on your ancestors, not of others. If I make a movie with a fantasy dance scene with your daughter, mother or wife, how would you react. Maybe, you won't mind if the self-respect is absent. But others having it would definitely mind it. Jai Hi

Well Argued.

The article is well argued. But I have one point. Films do influence the thought and behaviour of people as advertisements of commercial articles do. I know some people from royal families in Odisha. They are quite conservative. It is unthinkable that queen Padmavati was performing the ghumar dance as shown in the trailer of the film. I think perhaps this is the main distortion of the custom and practice of those days. Soon after I posted this view in a news portal I had a response challenging me. A few days later Nitish Kumar of Bihar Chief Minister expressed similar views.

Yes, the Padmavathi film should be shown;
but not in a distorted and unscrupulous
manner in the name of FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
AND SPEECH.

Helen danced as Helen
by palanki narayana on Dec 04, 2017 12:15 PM  | Hide replies

Dances are the staple of Indian films. In an old film Chanakya the marriage between Chandragupta Maurya and Helen (daughter of Seleucus Nicatar) was shown with full Hindu fanfare and colour. The marriage was arranged with motives which are political and had nothing to do with love. However Helen dances with abandon like one possessed by love. The role of Helen was played by Helen.

Those days are gone my friend. It is now the age of "Mitron" and his "Mitron". Things are changing in India whether for the good or otherwise will be known in the days and years to come.

Why public should see distorted history on the screen. The generation who have not read or heard about the History of Padmavati(Padmini), will henceforth believe that this is the actual history.

I totally agree with you. The same thing is going to happen with the BJ{/RSS combine tinkering with Indian History in school textbooks.
But then I do not see any protests about that happening.
A films interpretion of history is good enough for protests but a political party distorting history for its own narrow ends does not evoke a whimper.

Every author is keen to promote all 'stories' and art forms as long as they are not Charlie Hebdo's cartoons. Only in that, 'intellectuals' are united in demanding respect for a particular religion
