Imposition of Hindi
by Gladyschellam on Aug 10, 2017 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Imposition of Hindi language with non-Hindi speaking people/state have no meaning but spells about dominance. Learning more languages other than mother tongue is good but cannot be imposed.
It is said that large number of Hindi speaking people are migrating in Karnataka - political comment only, what is the quantum. Migrations are there more from TN, Kerala, AP and Maharashtrians.

In fact in Bangalore, Hindi speaking people are just 2.5% only - while Kannada are 38%, Tamils 28%, Telugu 17%, Urdu 12% and Malayalam 3%.
Does not matter if imposed in inter-state transporting system

My thoughts on Hindi
by Chaitanya on Aug 10, 2017 12:02 AM  | Hide replies

I am strongly against the use of Hindi in Central Govt offices, or in "Centre-funded projects" such as the Metro, or in Central Board schools.

My Reasons:

( 1 ) The Centre exists only because of the States, and it is not the other way round. Central funds exist only because of revenue flow from ALL States, and not just from the Hindi states. The Centre is not doing any FAVORS to States by funding projects.

( 2 ) Use of Hindi in Central govt offices creates a huge divide of inequality between Hindi-speaking and non-Hindi-speaking aspirants for employment in those offices.

( 3 ) Compulsory second language Hindi creates a huge divide of inequality between the workloads of Hindi children and non-Hindi children, through their ENTIRE SCHOOLING PHASE.

( 4 ) Transport hubs such as railway stations and bus stations have a lot of "floating population
, and having signboards in additional languages will certainly be helpful. But this should NEVER be limited to Hindi. Let railway stations and bus stations in every Hindi state show signboards in at least two South India languages, first.

Venkaiah Naidu's statement while visiting Bengaluru Metro, that Hindi is "out National language" is SHOCKING.

He should apologize for that statement and issue a statement that he was wrong on that.

There is no such thing in India as "the National Language" (thankfully), and there is no excuse for a man in his position to not know it (or pretend not to know)

I feel, a nation must have a national language, otherwise it will be like pre-British era when there was no concept of a nation and there used to be independent kings for every village and city.

People lived in India with their own mother tongues over thousands of years - with the new theory of national language is it necessary to change the existing system and makes quarrel among citizens of different origins.

@sarita ranjan just Imagine a beautiful necklace with 25-30 coloured beads out of which few are white ones. If we use western concept of national language uniformity we will have only one white coloured bead in the necklace and others have to be eliminated ? these western Countries had only one language to start with so we cannot compare . Pl. name one country(out of 190) which has 20 languages and which has declared one national language out of this 20

@Sarita Ranjan:

We already have a national anthem, a national flag, a national emblem, and a national song.

You're saying that all of these have not sufficiently unified people, and you feel that nominating Hindi as "The National Language" will magically address that problem?

Today, even without the status of "The National Language", Hindi is causing two major problems (which a National Emblem or National Anthem will never cause):

( 1 ) It creates a HUGE, LONG-TERM, LARGE-SCALE, UNFAIR BURDEN and DISADVANTAGE on those who are not native speakers of a Devanagari language.

( 2 ) This burden and disadvantage will eventually lead to the extinction of non-Hindi languages, which are in no way less important, less beautiful, and less rich, than Hindi.

by MISSIONARY on Aug 09, 2017 12:33 PM

British rule was golden era in Indian History
1. British unified over 550 princely states into a single entity.
2. They ended Moslem domination in India and liberated Hinddus from 1000-year long subjugation that eventually led to the rise of Hinddu intellectual class who could eventually fight for the freedom of India.
3. British built excellent dams, bridges, railways, roads, etc which unheard in the rest of Asia (during 19th century).
4. British opened many universities and colleges in India, which helped Hinddus to rise as an intellectual class.
5. British introduced English helped India to become a software superpower in the world today.
6. British rule considerably weakened the barbaric caste-system, even though remnants of the system remain. Even superstitions decreased to a great extent.
7. Due to better medical services, death rate dropped and life-span increased.
8. Railways, postal services, modern education, English medicine, etc rapidly improved the standards and quality of life.
9. HHindus were living under complete subjugation of Mozlems. British rule gave great religious freedom to HHindus
10. British rule altogether gave a new direction to Indians who were mired in ignorance, superstitions, caste-barbarity and opened an era of modern civilization in India.
