Why are politicians uncomfortable with military men?

In India Any thing or every thing is the IAS the supreme rulers of INDIA. For these kind of military appointment we must do away the practice of having IAS the most arrogant class of executives in Government barring some exceptions. This revamping is need of the hour.

The column makes lot of sense.It is fully agreed that former military men should be used for intelligence and other security services.

An excellent article though the author is being politically correct and not --calling a spade a spade!
The fact is our country has suffered cause it did not take sage military advice. The most famous example of this was PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who got carried away in 1962 in the Himalayan Blunder. India has lived with that ignominy for over 50 years. Given half a chance we may have gone the same way in 1971 when Indira Gandhi tried to pressure the army to attack East Pakistan during the monsoon. To her credit she finally accepted General Sam Maneckshaw's advice and let him fight at a time of his choosing. This won a huge victory.
We may not be privy to many other political decisions which have led our military to the quicksands but certainly Rajiv Gandhi's decision to send the Indian army to Srilanka to fight the Tamil LTTE was another unmitigated disaster.
It is no wonder that analysis of the political decisions of these conflicts such as the Henderson -Brooks Report has not seen the light of day! There are very few countries which do not consult their professionals in the armed forces.

Why cant we follow Americans in this serious matter?In USA, the Defence Secretary post is mostly given to some decorated Army General. The present DS Gen.Matis & the previous DS Gen Ramsfield are both higly decorated Army Generals.But in our country this important portfolio is just given to any trusted politician.

stop visiting only for name sake Honorable PM PLEASE teach a lessons to stone peltors on our jawans and misbehaving with them .please dont show mercy to such peoples those who are not respect our jawans and india

I fully agree with you. Politicians should hand over the reins to Commando forces with no questions asked for 10 days . only instructions wipe out th militants & its sympathisers who hide them. bring back the family members of seperatists & dump them in Kashmir. in the midst of what ever stone pelting or in srgency happening areas. w/o body guards like a normal citizens. see the result.
