Help for needy by multimillioners in the country
by Vijender Sachdeva on Sep 28, 2017 08:51 AM

I do agree that rich people donate lot of money for poor but still there are many who are ignored and many of them live in very pathetic conditions without financial support I request that more rich people should come forward for this noble cause

Widows of Army Officers
by Ashwin on Nov 05, 2016 05:57 PM  | Hide replies

Hats off to these brave determined ladies to join Army, despite their Husbands' death. Even the cooperation of Brig Vinayak is laudable. I think Lt.Col Mahadhik is the Officer, shot by Terrorists after they were holed up in a house & they said they are surrendering but shot the Officer when they came out. That is why Bhopal encounter is justified; we can not sacrifice our soldiers for terrorists. How to confirm they had no arms while on the run? We read in the news that there is shortage of Officers, JCOs,NCOs in the Army (Air Force & Navy also) & why not relax some rules for such people who want to join the Armed forces? But my feeling is that Army has to give them anything but not combat branches. We know the treatment our neighbors gave to Capt Kalia & beheading of a soldier recently while Indians are incapable of such treatment to captured soldiers. Imagine what treatment they will give to females if they are caught alive. They can be drafted into Administrative, Logistics, Supply Corps etc. even if they insist on joining combat forces. It is in their interest/safety.

Encounters are necessary and a good thing provided there is quality control, for which the basic protocol needs to be scientific and open to public.

by Janas on Nov 01, 2016 07:47 PM  | Hide replies

But where r the Congress, AAP and Left trumpets for these families? They talk of HR interests for SIMI terrorists, but not a word of sympathy for these families. And the irony of this is they r protected by our security forces. Remove their security covers Terrorists wll provide them.

Law enforcement agencies need to obey the law. The law prescribes the way to deal with terrorists: arrest and prosecution. It is deplorable that you brought politics into this.

The law also says that a policeman has the power to ask any human being to stop, and to use all means to make him do so in case he does not immediately comply. A policeman who refuses to stop a person who is running away after being told to stop would be committing a crime and not doing his duty. He could be held to be an accessory to any crime committed by that individual.

In death and in life, they chose the Army
by VENKATESHPRASAD IYER on Oct 13, 2016 01:50 PM

Thank you Rediff and Ms.Archana Masih for this inspiring interview. I was touched and tearful after reading the Interview. The armed forces should increase the number of women in the forces to operate in peacetime missions in the country and abroad. I salute the brave ladies and wish them all the very best in their endeavours. May they serve the country with pride and valour.

Really Brave ladies
by sirisha k on Oct 06, 2016 07:08 PM

Really they are brave ladies. Even after losing their husbands, they are still want to work in Army. Really it is a eye-opener for young people. Indian armed forces conducting many campus recruitment by visiting engineering colleges. Very few youngsters are showing interest in this exercise. They are giving first preference to IT companies,MNC's etc., giving last preference to armed forces. Government should make compulsory military service to the students, otherwise only select people like people with army family background & Northern states like Punjab, Haryana will join and remaining people will enjoy lucrative white color jobs earning lakhs of rupees by working in abroad.

Our society worships cricketers and actors and treats soldiers with contempt.
