It would be good if we just improve our defences and cut off all relations with Pakistan ?
Pakistan might be waiting just for that opportunity, for other countries to intervene and join the fight. India could ask friends, newer United states or older Russia, not to bother us. But both of them would like to pump armaments on both sides, as evident from Russian joint exercises in Pakistan. We may still have non-trivial dependence on Russian arms.
Just watch at the mess they created in Syria, China chipping in too. Russia supports Assad, the US supports rebels and in the process they allowed former Iraqi soldiers to sneak in, virtually overnight, as ISIS, probably with china/pak help!
The only option for India is to call the American and Russian bluff. Both of them have been at this game for far too long. Nehru sensed it and tried a non-alignment strategy, pursued well by Indira Gandhi - the last leader whom the others loved to hate, but they had to listen. Will Modi be so strong-willed? It looks like. He has an economic leverage which Indira Gandhi didn't have.
Narasimha Rao and Vajpayee pursued nuclear deterrent and Manmohan Singh dealed the nuclear supplies. China knows India's assertion and wants to reset India back to an equation alongside Pakistan, with some help from Switzerland and others who were annoyed with India's insistence on disclosures !
So who is the real enemy ? China. Period. We must find way to first deal with them and then deal with Russia and the US

HOWEVER, PAKISTAN FIRMLY BELIEVES THAT INDIA IS A BRAHMANICAL HINDU NATION AND CONSIDERS IT TO BE NOT A LEGITIMATE HEIR TO BRITISH RULERS WHO HAD SNATCHED THE RULE FROM MOGHULS ( THOUGH IT WAS FROM INDIAN). PAKISTAN THINKS THAT THEY HAVE THE DIVINE RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED BY ALLAH TO BE THE GLOBAL GUARDIANS OF ISLAM. IT IS BECAUSE OF ALLAH\\\'S DESIGN THAT ISLAM BASED PAKISTAN HAS BEEN FORMED. THIS MINDSET IS THE SOURCE OF ALL TERROR. UNLESS THIS MINDSET IS CHANGED NO GENUINE TALKS AND LONG TERMS PEACE IS POSSIBLE IN THE SAARC REGION. ALLHA WOULD NEVER LIKE THAT HIS CREATURES INCLUDING MUSLIMS AND HINDUS SHOULD LIVE IN PEACE AND HE WOULD NEVER DESTROY ANY CREATURE BEACUSE ONE ADOPTS ONE RELIGION OR THE OTHER. Scriptures of all religions belong to all people of the world as all religious leaders have given message to people and not to Hindus, Confucius Tau-ism, Jains, Jews, Zorashtrians, Buddists, Christian, Muslims and Sikhs. etc. Pakistan has to demonstrate that everyone in their country respects and accepts all religions with equality and each one is free to follow one; religion in Pakistan without fear. Love to all
A bold decision by the Indian government seconded by three other nations. Surprising Nepal is silent though our immediate neighbor. Action speaks louder than words. Shameful US has shown its true colour of extending military ties with the terror country though they condemn the Uri attack. India should be cautious with both US and Russia in ties as both are not reliable. Balan
