And why so about HAL ? What is the record of HAL ? Total disaster as the Tejas expereince proves. In the United States, Japan, France, Germany and every other developed nation everything is produced by the private sector...what is the problem with that ? Private sector has always done better - whether it is the banks (see the disaster and loot in the PSU banks), or Steel, or any sector where they are not a monopoly. Hey give it to Indian manufacturers they are as patriotic as any PSUs.
Rediff articles are absolutely confusing. This article says savings in Rafael Deal, Another article in rediff says costs agreed are higher than previous agreement, Which one is true, seems articles are written with half baked knowledge owners or purposely to confuse readers or by vested interest parties

The other article by that Russian dalal was full of gas and fudged numbers to make an ideological point, becuase he shuklaji is a Italian family point man. This one at least has the facts as reported by all the mainstream media.
Indian labour man hour cost 2.7 times higher that that of French labour. This is surprising. May be productivity of Indian labour is lower by a factor much more than 2.7.

Three other minor but important concessions include free training for nine IAF personnel, including three pilots; additional guarantee for 60 hours of usage of training aircraft for Indian pilots and six months of free weapons storage without charge (in case the Indian infrastructure is not ready for storing the weapons). The three concessions alone would make substantial saving for India. From 8.5 bn to 7.5 bn Euros isn\'t it a real bargain to Indian Capable leadership with visionary mind set. Jai Hind and Jai Jawan. Good days of IAF.
