As for the thousands of child labourers of Sivakasi (who pack chemicals in fireworks with their bare hands sitting in poorly ventilated sheds in or around their houses), the festival has truly been getting happier and happier in recent years !
Earlier, these children used to pack firecrackers in the factories after school hours in the afternoons. Now, after extremely vigilant pro active measures by the incorruptible labour dept of the TN state govt against child labour, sub contractors of the firework factories engage children right in their houses to skip school completely and pack more fireworks !
The parents are happier, the factories which now openly say that they have rid themselves of child labour are also happier, the labour welfare officials are happier (they have rid the state of child labour without compromising their err.....other incomes) and the sub contractors have never been so happy !
And what goes in Sivakasi also goes in Meerut and other places which are the hubs of fireworks manufacture.
Deepavali is certainly getting happier and happier !
