The clerk has to be taken to the task. The manager defending the bank staff is illegal. Even if it was a mistake, how come the bank officials did not notice it at the entry level. There seems to be buck in the software, that needs to be plugged immediately.

Yup and that will be around 1 crore 58 lac (1.58 crore). Poor chap...he should consult to finance expert OR lawyer to claim this amount.
Once to credit salary of our employees, data was given to the bank clearly indicating that the amount is including 2 decimals as extracted from our system. Though they used to credit the correct amount always, on that month someone ignore the decimal and credited salary in lakhs and crores only to be rectified at the end of the day during reconciliation
As per the Banks explanation it could happened while posting the Ledger account instead of entering the amount G/L code entered, it is quite common, and all who are doing this type of job can understand easily.

I agree with your comment as this type of error happens. My question is whether in JAN DHAN a/c such credit is possible, when, there is a restriction that the credit balance should not exceed beyond 50000. Any how it is a clerical error.
