Slap in the face!
by Srinivas Konuri on Nov 09, 2016 09:57 PM

Pollsters predicted a narrow to wide margin win for Hillary Clinton and it turned out to be a resounding victory for Trump. UK general elections in May 2016, then Brexit in June,2016 and now US Presidential elections 2016 - It is a hat-trick of failures. Flashing intelligent sounding words will not hide the obvious that there is nothing there and simply not delivering the results (pun intended).

Access to almost all the voters, deeper and wider access to them is now available be it over mobile phones or the internet. This level of access to voters both qualitatively and quantitatively is unprecedented. There are computers and algorithms to process the collected data and in fact a whole new field of data science has emerged to make sense of all the data out there. Put simply, there are tools now to collect and process data like never before but polls are getting it all wrong like never before. This is a CLASSIC CONUNDRUM.

The polls either outright or in the form and manner they are conducted as of now have been rendered redundant. Whatever the reason, this latest episode is a bitch slap in the face and a notice to get the act right.

A Time for Trump!
by Srinivas Konuri on Nov 09, 2016 07:36 PM

To win Presidential Election in USA, you have to get a significant portion, if not majority, of majority white votes. No matter, if every one of minority vote goes to you, still will not win unless you win a significant portion of majority group votes. THIS IS REALLY THE OBVIOUS BOTTOM LINE.

Hillary Clinton and her campaign machinery failed and failed miserably in this regard. There could be any number of reasons, but one dominant reason is Hillary's camp assumed they had the election won without a single vote cast or counted. But to be fair one cannot fault Hillary's camp too much as a predominant number of polls were predicting her win and there was this general euphoria of a Hillary win.

The gung-ho and often invective laced support of minorities, and quite a few celebrities served to jolt majority voters to Trump's corner who might have felt personally about those invectives. Even President Obama who could never be accused spoiling a political broth might have over-cooked it a tad bit.
Generally speaking, Hillary's staunch supporters unwittingly aided her rival.

The minority should have been far less vociferous, far less colourful in their insults of Trump and silently turned up at polling booths to vote. In other words minority should have done what the majority did. HEREIN IS A LESSON FOR MINORITIES NOT JUST IN USA BUT EVERYWHERE.

All the post facto analysis and all the couldas, wouldas and shouldas notwithstanding, MAYBE IT WAS JUST A TIME FOR A TRUMP.

AMERICAN MINDSET - ONLY MEN

The presidential election in US has indicated one unanimous mindset. ONLY MEN CAN GET ELECTED AS PRESIDENT, AND NO WOMAN...either be republican or democrat. Just a bitter truth

Your analysis totally wrong. Hillary was winning up to the last stage except for the great blunder committed by her on the e-mail in private server. You have to pay the price for any wrong doing

Quite wrong, Krishnan. You cannot explain the margin of defeat inflicted on Clinton by simplistically picking the e-mail issue.

The quantum of support she expected from Coloured people/ Latinos did not materialise and conversely the blue collar white workers voted overwhelmingly for Trump. Possibly, there was a hidden support base for him as well, which did not want to reveal its preference for him openly, but did it at the ballot box.

Anyway, we can analyse as much as we want, but the fact is that in the battle between the Joker and the Liar, USA chose the former. We have to now wait and watch the jokes he plays on the American people and the rest of the world.

Joker...Mr. Trump? How can he own such a huge business empire and be so successful if he was so? He simply played his cards so well that in fact fellow American politicians have been made to look like jokers!! For the first time in political history, we have a blunt, plain-speaking, motor mouthed man at the helm of affairs. What he is or what he is going to do is for us to wait and watch, but for now at least he is a welcome change in world politics...Because what change have all these dignified, shrewd, diplomatically correct politicians in the rest of the world able to assure in? The world seems to be in utter chaos. Mr. Trump does not seem to be a loose canon...let\'s see ...give him a chance...
