Defence Ministry and Corruption

Mr. Parrikar claims that "In two years, there hasn't been a single case of corruption in the defence ministry". Well said Minister and may your prediction remain true. But, normally corruption cases are discovered only much later - probably after your stint in Defence or a change in Government.

India's Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar - The day you are out of Power "BY DEFAULT ALL CORRUPTIONS WILL COME OUT"
DO NOT BE IN A HASTE TO GIVE SUCH STATEMENTS.
YOU WILL BE PROVED A LIAR.

Two years period is too short to asses the performance of a govt or any institution. At the Fag end of the tenure only we could assess. During take over all incumbents used to comment adverse about the outgoing incumbent and speaks good about the positives. In reality previous incumbents performance would influence for a while. Hence speaking high about themselves and speaks bad about opponents have no meaning.

No Corruption?
by Shyam Sunder on May 24, 2016 09:24 AM

Is he happy or surprised about it? No corruption should not become any achievement in itself. On the other hand, if he thinks corruption takes place in only procurements, he is miserably wrong. Most of the corruption goes unnoticed when people are in connivance and money is taken in smaller sums. In almost all ministries, corruption is openly prevalent even in promotions, transfers, postings, etc of officers. The more earning a post, higher the cost for obtaining a posting there. In most cases highest level officers of Ministries are involved in this work and if somebody pays money for a posting, how do we expect he will not earn back the money paid in multiples? Let us not close our eyes and say everything is fine.

MES = Money Earning Service
by AdinarayanaSastry Burra on May 24, 2016 06:48 AM  | Hide replies

Military Engineering Service (MES) under Corps of Engineers, Army is nicknamed as Money Earning Service. Was notorious fro corruption, when I was an Army Officer. I doubt if anything has changed. Similarly Army Supply Corps (ASC) was so lucrative that the Sword of Honour winning Gentlemen Cadets were keen to join ASC rather than Infantry/Artillery/Armoured. I request the honorable minister take a look.
