IAF top brass sending feelers..

Enough of these gimmicks. No more bullying on high-value imports and no more kickbacks.

Tejas was intended to be a replacement for Migs. It is thousand times better than the Migs.. Yet the congress legacy of creating bottlenecks into its induction takes place.

HAL has already ramped up the production of Tejas. Don't siphon off taxpayers' money further..

very correct , in the name of urgency, they get indulged in purchasing from abroad and have their cuts .
We have been seeing this since decades.
Start managing with the country's resources.

Tejas will be delivered 2 numbers per year, lot of time to reach even 6 squadrons. We need off the shelf items, and NOW, to progress towards anticipated 60 squadrons. Again, we need to keep in mind that Mirage, Sukhoi will start getting obsolete / end of life by then, so the cycle continues.

The current capacity of Tejas is 8 per year and will be ramped upto 16 per year from 2018. They're also going to build a second production line for Tejas. Tejas MK-2 will be as good as Gripen E

It ain't that grim....

I had gone through this document by Dr.Ashley J Tellis, it is an exhaustive account of Air Forces of India China & Pakistan, with a detailed info about the contemporary aircrafts, but all in all it is marketing document promoting western, especially American fighter Aircrafts. Yes there was a delay due to budgetary restrictions and a lack of farsight on part of Indian political leadership, yet a plan and program is on and desired strength will be achieved.
Doc was so strong on ale pitch that it created a scenario with a simultaneous conflict with China and Pakistan to undermine current operational combat readiness of IAF. Clearly putting one on one his documents grim projections would have been lost, as we have decisive superiority over PAF and are better placed with decent advantage in terms of infrastructure and force strength vis a vis PLAF. If you see most of such docs of American origin are oriented towards an stealth objective, they don't really mean in spirit what they talk about. Similar research papers forced US to save humanity from tyranny of ocialism and gave world Vietnam and Korean war, and similar demonization caused Iraq invasion, and they couldn't find WMDs.

As you point out, we shouldn't accept everything Americans say. But in this case the vice chief of the IAF concurs with the strength assessment, so it must be accurate. That, of course, doesn't mean we have to buy American fighters.

What next ?
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Mar 31, 2016 05:14 PM

Now that such inexcusable delays have taken place in our aircraft programmes, the only way to fight effectively would be to somehow ( anyhow) extend the life of our MIG-21 fleet by another 5 years and move quickly to get Tejas into production plus finalise licence production of Rafale or other suitable MMRCA. Our heavy aircraft needs are anyway met by SUkhoi 30. For ten years from now, we better make the right compromises and go in for the indigenous FGFA with Russian collaboration.

We will seek rediff advise before going to war
by radhakrishna topalle on Mar 31, 2016 12:14 PM  | Hide replies

Why rediff is taking up such useless issues, i suspect it is being prodded by some powerful political party. What is the wrong, big wrong, thinf by allowing JIT from Pakistan, not that we are hoping to get Maulana Azhar Masood, or some idiot, atleast we can show the world, we have enough capability to allow our tormentors on our soil

As far as I can see, Rediff publishes different viewpoints. They don't suppress one side or the other. And the writers have their own opinions, which are not the view of Rediff!

I agree that the visit of the Pakistani JIT was justified and well managed. It may help improve relations. But I don't think the opposite viewpoint should be suppressed, as long as it is reasonable.
