The unnecessarily long, boring and sometimes irrelevant speeches delivered by Menon, Nehru etc were a kind of entertainment program for diplomats of the West. We forgot the stark and naked reality--- Mao's Diktat---"All political powers on the globe grow out of the barrel of the gun"
Past Indian government made India from a needle importing country to top 10 nations in the world yet our PM felt ashamed and looked down the government.
