While this much tomtommed Yoga was lost or hidden for thousands of years, during which my beloved country suffered numerous calamities, epidemics, foreign rules, poverty and Manusmruti etc. there was no thinker, reformer, sadhu or a nationally accepted leader, who talked one word about it! Now for past two years, Yoga has been made a national priority, spreading and promoting unproven virtues for our nation. The PM is so generous towards spending crores for Yoga, yoga guru Ramdev and others, for granting lands, for telling even the UGC to chant Om while doing yoga etc. All of these are directly and truly religion related and religion promoted activities. Diabetes is neither prevented nor cured by Yoga. No hard or even soft evidence for such a miracle! It would be welcome if the PM produces some hard evidence for all the claims he is making about Yoga, making sure that that evidence is scrutinized and confirmed by international health authorities. Are these our national priorities which are costing so much to the exchequer?

Daniel , people like you & your ilk will never accept the facts or listen to experiences of people who have benfited it. Maybe there is no direct benefit like 1 1=2 , but regular doing of the same helps in the general well being of a human being which in turn will bring down the incidences of sickness & ill health. Modern science has accepted it , so you really need to be looking at it positively. Anyway at least you accepted it that in the past so many years there was no one to take up the cause of Yoga, even in its birth place.

True, yoga is the remedy for many diseases especially Diabetic. One of my boss Mr. R.B. Patil, use to tell me to do "Pranayam"in the late 70's when I have started my carrier in Mumbai. Now in my evening hours I realized that it is better to do yoga to maintain your health, as I have been compel to be in my job for my bread and butter. Thanks to Mr. Modi to make it big and world wide. This is an essential part of the life for every working class people.
Why does a PM of all take it upon himself to become the Brand Ambassador of Yoga ?
As soon as he took over power, rather than fulfilling his extragavant rash poll promises, Modi has embarked upon wasting Nation's time in such dubious endeavours at the cost of exchequer apart from his frequent foreign junkets.
There is a scheming attempt behind such methodical madness and that is to promote the 6 Billion dollar worth Yoga Industry around the Globe. The first person who immensely benefits from such stage managed event is Baba Ramdev who was the vocal canvasser of Modi's candidature for PM in the last Lok sabha polls and he runs a billion rupee worth Yoga industry in India promoting Patanjali products.
Yoga's practitioners have asserted its effect on balancing emotional, physical and spiritual health for decades, but only recently has there been a move to substantiate these claims through research and the findings have not been conclusive. Moreover, to perform Yoga one has to be well trained and it is definitely not a one day business. Infact, trying to perform Yoga without knowing its intricacies can only prove fatal to the body. Gymnastics, jogging and walking are much better form of exercises than Yoga with immense health benefits.

Swacch Bharat Abhiyan should have been multi tasked to the Local bodies monitored by the State Govts and not the Central Govt. How can the Central Govt., taking refuge in Lutyens comfort monitor such a giant initiative taking place at the local bodies level ?
And this Programme isn't novel either and the importance of cleanliness has been stressed since Gandhiji's time. Modi being a copy cat again took the leaf from the UPA's Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan to launch this initiative with much fanfare which has been an abject failure so far.
The importance of civic Sense through promotional campaigns should be the initiative of the local bodies and not the Central Govt. All that the Central Govt. can do is to allocate extra funds for this purpose. But being an impulsive indulger in cheap gimmicks, Modi took it upon himself roping in celebrities mostly from the filmy World to fabricate a myth of a Central Govt. doing things differently. A selfie PM sweeping a posh locality with a broom in his hand enveloped by a sea of photographers to cover the event doesn't ensure Swacch Bharat.

Your views and observations need to be appreciated by this country. Yoga ultimately ends up in Kundalini jagriti, which is highly dangerous to normal humans because it indulges in hard occult and spiritual powers of unknown origin, that can affect the total being. There is an increasing trend towards suicides and inhuman behaviour even of mothers towards their children. Such weird and inhuman behaviour can result from tampering with naturally developing, healthy mind, through Yoga. For thousands of years, human minds have grown and developed naturally without Yoga. Perhaps, Western countries have gone so far ahead, only because they never dabbled in mind-bend arts and practices like yoga.
