Yes, Sanskrit is a great language, and as a language, all efforts must be made to revive it as no language no matter how great or how small deserves to die. Every language is a victory of human cognitive abilities over incoherence. However, the project of the Rajeevs appears to be not a restoration of Sanskrit, but a return to the sanskriti of the ancient times marked by, among others, a steadfast refusal on the part of the Brahmins to let the lower castes learn the language.Do we want to return to chaturvarna? Do we want uncompromising adherence to upper-caste privileges? Rajeev Srinivasan and co are salivationg over such a possibility. In the garb of bringing back Sanskrit, they want to annihilate all the advantages of modernity by labeling them Western. They have had the benefits of English education, and now they want new generations of Indians to stick to Bharatiya sanskriti in an age in which linguistic, cultural, and even political boundaries are becoming irrelevant

Yes, and this effort should come from Indian scholars of repute. Not from outsiders with proven anti hindu agenda.

you garb...to not promote Sanskrit is to link it to chaturvarna. you fit for nothing Cristian xyzzzzzz. The Ramayana we read was by a person from the lowest of the chaturvarna system.
is a limited language. A language's level is determined by the extent to which you can express yourself in the language. Some one please translate to Sanskrit Microbiology and law of diminishing marginal utility.
study of this divine language can give back us our cultural rootedness which has been badly tarnished by Congress govts and ignorant media. thus we can have self respect without which true progress is not possible. culture and civilization are like mothers in whose lap we grow in right direction.

What culture. This is a language spoken by upper caste just to prove that they are something superior than others. If you want to bring back jatipratha, Rajsahi and rule of religion than its OK. ISIS is also doing that in the name of a different religion.

Dear Loknath, I know last 200 years education system especially last 70 years post Independence education system made us think this way. Can you please read "The Battle of Sanksrit" before you express your opinion by limited reading.
Congress Govt under the leadership of Nehru was responsible for selecting Hindi as national language instead of Sanskrt which was anyway the choice of half of the Constituent Assembly of 1949 that voted on the choice of official language, only one vote excess for Hindi and the see the plight of our culture today in India. If Sanskrit had been our National language, see we could have utilized lacs of books written over 1000s of years and from all parts of India & erstwhile bharat covering all subjects - science, maths, spirituality etc.
Thanks Rajeev!!!for that insightful article. keep those insights coming. The ignorance of Indians baffles me & even after they read such articles they say nothing that makes sense in these comments. Proud to say that we are a sanskrit speaking family like many I know- its alive and well in our home. unfortunately no one knows about us because we don't claim any minority status for preferential treatment although we could use some
