Appalled at the ignorance or apathy of indians
by vijaya v on Jan 21, 2016 12:37 PM

Thanks Rajeev!!!for that insightful article. keep those insights coming. The ignorance of Indians baffles me & even after they read such articles they say nothing that makes sense in these comments. Proud to say that we are a sanskrit speaking family like many I know- its alive and well in our home. unfortunately no one knows about us because we don't claim any minority status for preferential treatment although we could use some

Rajan Sodankur
Nehru and Gandhi
by Rajan Sodankur on Jan 21, 2016 12:12 PM

Both western educated, Gandhi was too liberal to allow partition of India on religious grounds which proves to be a failed proposition today; Nehru while focusing on modernization along western lines ignored millennia old and strong Indian culture and knowledge, fallen victim to western views of Indian history, his feet were not rooted on the ground. What happened to the movement of his impractical Non-Aligned Movement; the founding nation Yugoslavia of Marshal Tito broke up long ago, Egypt has been in turmoil for long,India is breaking up. Today Nehru and Gandhi are not so relevant, we need Chanakyas; not government sponsored Gods in museums and Samadhis supported by tax payers money, real fighting patriots and statesmen

great parallel
by neo on Jan 21, 2016 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

Your article about the destruction of Sanskrit at the hands of western orientalists closely parallels my own views about the destruction of classical divine tamil at the hands of Hindi Pracharaks.eg. how Malayalam(a tamil dialect) was sanskritized by Ezhuthachan 4 centuries ago. However, we 'madrasis' would never harbor bitterness or spew hate towards North Indians for oppressing us for almost 3000 years.
No wonder the southern cultural values are superior to the north.

you must be a dravidian fool to propagate this type of non-sense!!!
Decades of Missionary backed brain-washing by Periyar/Anna/Karunanidhi is having its effect!!!

Sanskrit is popular in many advanced countries like Germany....pity that people in India are opposing this great language for vote-bank politics!!!

Sanskrit was not used anywhere in south india for 3000 years, except by a very tiny minority of Brahmins.
I am Dravidian, but not a fool. You are ignorant, but I will not call you a fool. To call you a fool would be to lower myself to the status of an angry, abusive north Indian.

Sanskrit Mandatory
by sharduli Acharya on Jan 21, 2016 11:41 AM

Sanskrit must be made a mandatory language subject at schools, so that the new generation understand and value its preposition to our culture and our future grow brighter.

Expect Mr. Modi's government take this initiative and start rolling out...

Need immediate actions
by Tushar Roy on Jan 21, 2016 11:21 AM

I have been hearing this clamor since my childhood. But surprising those advocates such ideas do not walk their talk, their euphoria vanishes when they are asked to perform. All these days they have sent their children to “Convent school” to baptized them to be a Macaulay’s child then to “Neheruvian IIT or Western science Institutions and eventually to beef eating lands of opportunities.

Therefore making allegation and abusing others doesn’t make sense at this juncture, when they are now in absolute power. Instead, they must ask for the followings;

•Universities/Colleges for of Sanskrit, Ayurvedic, occult science, yoga etc…etc….
•Strictly no to Convent School, Western science colleges.
•Call back all bhakt PIO.
•
•

I would request the writer to complete my unfinished list.

Thanks!

Nehruvian Stalinist ?
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Jan 21, 2016 11:17 AM  | Hide replies

He may have some valid points about promotion of Sanskrit, but by clubbing the words Nehru and Stalin the author has mischievously tried to somehow associate the liberal democrat Nehru with a tyrant Stalin, whom even Russia disowns today. He must remember that journalists of his type would have been "eliminated" long ago , if anyone other than Nehru had been the PM after 1947.

The sad and tragic reality is many of the Sanskrit activists of certain organisations , go out of their way to exhibit their '..secular credentials..' .
This , they consider is a "smart business strategy" to promote and propagate Sanskrit.

The sooner these pioneers of modern day Sanskrit propagation rectify their course of action, the better for the Sanskrit society at large.
