More tightly you embrace somebody more is the resentment against you. More freedom you give to your close ones more they respect and love you. Understand this psychology.

to say I should have freedom to decide where national anthem should play and where not, I should have freedom to decide to stand up not this freedom then defies national interest so few things are better to be left to highest bodies of our nation to decide

The highest court of law of India has not asked to show patriotism but asked to show respect. In fact one should never feel it as duty. They shall feel it as right to show respect towards the National Anthem.

Disrespecting national symbols is unpatriotic...
by MS Vasan on Dec 10, 2016 01:58 PM  | Hide replies

Nobody is saying that Indians should prove their nationalism to others. But everyone is expected to give respect to national symbols, such as flag, anthem, etc...
Just arguing against routine procedures of respecting national symbols is not proving your nationalism..

Who has decided that sitting is disrespectful while standing is respectful?

The author has missed the point of nationalism..it didnt happen overnite !! It wasbiulding over the time. You are correct as children n teens we did stand for the anthem in school n no 1 bothered..its also true no 1 went chest thumpin after watchin manoj kumar movies....The reason people are becomin ultra nationalist is bcoz democracy over years has failed them ! People have seen how some others or even certain leaders in name of democracy n equality have squandered off..looted ..casteist..certain tilt to particular community..being too too tolerable with the bleeding they incurred from pakistan n jihadist.......and then easy access to hitler n nazi germany books which has no stigma as in europe...All this has led to ultra nationalist..but beware its a phenomenon not just in India..its happenin across world..see poll results in austria..france..uk..italy..heck even Trump got elected bcoz if that..so stop blamin Indians..we are still very tolerant that you can walk on your legs after writin this kind of article

I don't know whether the authoring being able to wal on his legs is a sign of tolerance of Indian society or not

but

the fact that people can even think of using violence (such as breaking the leg) against people who write such articles just shows how intolerant we have become.

That is an excuse. If you have become intolerant because of actions of others then they also have a right to become intolerant due to your actions. Not a convincing argument.

Its a tussle between Chamchas and Bhakts. While the chamchas would give certificates of tolerance and secularism, the Bhakts who were fed up are now giving away certificates of nationalism.

The people criticising the SC decision, shamelessly eat buffet in functions standing continuously for hours but they are reluctant to stand in honour of our motherland for few minutes and you Rediff mail make this big issue. You editorial board should be lashed in public. Stop playing with sentiments of Indian Citizens.

If there is a law that every person who attends a marriage function has to stand in queue (even if it is for 52 seconds) and eat buffet dinner, i will refuse to attend such a marriage.

Issue is not standing. It is being forced to do it.

It is good that NA will be played before all movies. Why not before all TV serials? and why not before movies on TV? And why not before birthdays, marriage functions, sangeet ceremonies, booze parties, etc. And what if movie is adult trash like those of said khan?
