"As flies to wanton boys, are we to the gods. They kill us for their sport"
Gods are between us; among us. We cannot escape.

Again knee-jerk reaction. BAN is not the solution all the time. We have least respect for the law and utter disregard to human lives. Punish the persons who are responsible.

Temple Traditions
by gopalakrishnan caruthedath on Apr 11, 2016 04:40 PM

A very good article. It is high time that we have a relook at the old traditions and rituals and give up those which results in such human tragedies.

"Common Sense". Rest they have in abundance. Someone has to pay for the mass stupidity. I hope the govt bans these traditions since, people don't have the guts to regulate excess.

The one who made the previous post decries people who call for bans as not having common sense.

You decry people who resist bans as not having common sense !

Only proves that common sense is a very elastic term, moulded as willed by the person who uses it !

ha ha ha slider..Do you even know one malayali? Malayalis are the ones who does not go die for a religion..they vote on issues and not castes. Have you heard of any malayali in the communal riots or anything like that? No. Of course if you have any common sense only then you will understand who has it and who does not have it. Non sense I can say your comments is :)

With respect to Mr. Ram Manohar, you are true, Malayalees are Indians first and religion next. I have not heard any communal clashes, deprieving people due to their religions etc. I am an example, being a Muslim working as Karnataka Incharge for a strong Namboodiri clan company. Hatts off to Malayalees - keep the religious zeal but try to correct any mis-fortunes happens like the latest tragedy due to fire crackers.

About fire crackers, it is dangerous does not mean nobody uses it, if kerala uses in temples, rest of the country uses it in Diwali so they have common sense is it? Absolute rubbish

Tragedy
by Rajesh C on Apr 11, 2016 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

Another knee-jerk action in the making...a colossal tragedy, agreed, but banning anything and everything is a very bad choice. As a mob, people tend to lose their common sense. If there are zebra crossings and people don't use them, it is ridiculous to tell vehicles to go slow; why aren't the rules being enforced strictly.

1000s die in their beds does not make us ban beds...analyze potential hazardous situations, have strict rules in place and enforce them thoroughly. Punish the offenders and make public their offence as a deterrent.

Firecrackers are not beds. Nor are they zebra crossings.

They can and should be banned till very strict safety regimens and protocols are drawn up and implemented.

The only ones who will really lose from such a ban are the corrupt businessmen and temple administrators !
