The problem of starting English teaching late in a student's life is not confined to Gujarat alone. It is also true in most of our states(including the ones Mr Patel mentioned as fore runners ). Even in states like Tamil Nadu, according to press reports, only about 20% of the graduate Engineers are able to enter good jobs
Now govt. of India must help economically backward people whose income is below Taxable Limit on all India basis for all Indians and remove reservations on caste basis for all,This is real way to remove poverty from India-PANKAJ MEHTA
School entry does not need a reservation. Then why is it required at college entry & job entry level? surely this is a social problem & not a ethnic /political problem. Same education at school level but different result at 10th standard & 12 standard! It is a social problem & to be solved by social means & by counseling
I learnt English from 5th standard onwards as I was in a Desi Vernacular Marathi school. But doesn't look like it has hampered me from becoming a post graduate engineer
If lack of opportunities is the reason, then protestors would not be coming in Jaguars and Harley Davidsons to seek reservation. This is a political stunt enacted by a small section of Patels and nothing more.
Since, USA stopped Patels from entering visa. They are facing this problems. Instead of reservations, they should start migration like Syrians to USA by hook or crook.

My experience is the Gujarathis locals don't work.. They all have some business or other.. I had a small biz in surat, 3 out of 16 were only Gujarathis. In this also Gujarathis is only one.. Working class 50 odd are from Bihar, Uttaranchal etc.. Thus I have found mostly workers from out side Gujarathis and White collar executives again from different states, locals not even small%. The patels sudden wake up is surpring.. Are they serious about working or just just to make it political.. This community in Biz can not work for some one, the way it's projected!!

you are partly right, there has been a surge in the working class ,cause they new generation of PATEL's are giving more importance to education and are also good at it ,this is where the problem began , when for the last 10 years or so the Patel youth is unable to procure admissions for medical and engineering colleges cause of the quota system ,the reservation might be less compared to other states but the massive numbers of Patel youth applying for admissions makes it impossible for them to find justice , let alone the procurement of jobs which really is a secondary issue. The question is really not about affordability or taking advantage of subsidies or getting seats with lower marks , if that be the case they would have not proposed cancellation of all reservation ,if they had any doubts about competing in the open category that is.
Patel youth is not longer happy being mere graduates when they see themselves potentially better then others. They don't like the tag of being RICH ,the youth wants justice to their academical skills as it is a known fact that the current reserved category is not hand to mouth to say the least ,infact the Koli community has grown wealth wise by 100 folds ,when the reserved category applicants can afford the studies then why are we not given a chance to compete and then may the best student win.
I sincerely feel there can be two good solutions to this.
you cant say that Gujarati Students are undereducated. Gujarati Students dont have good Education Institutional for Study that's why they have to go Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore for Medical and Engineering Study after giving more donation. Even in Gujarat if you have to take admission in the Govt Medical and Engineering College you have give Big Donation i.e 60 Lacs if you not fall under reservation. Gujarati Students are well educated and which you can see in the Result of CA and USA There more doctors and IT Engineers are Gujaratis. Where no Reservation Policy. IN Gujarat Modi only Develop Road, But real picture is there is no Industries comes in this tenure no company have start their operations after doing MOU. and I Tell you freinds this "Patel Andolan" will show real picture with in one year.
