US may not trust Pakistan to safe guard their interest but at the same time want controversies between India and Pakistan to reach a cresendo.Pakistan they can take on militarily yet on India diplomatically and politically,There interest is to see unrest to go on in South east Asia.
Strategically, Kashmir is located between Middle East & Far East a better location for the US to establish their operation head quarters to control Russia & China. Fortunately or unfortunately, they are not successful because of the present position of Kashmir Valley but they continue trying . At the same time they can't simply ignore India due to the Commercial Value that India hold in this region and they feel a better source to counter China. At the same time they also need to keep the PAK on their side as India has a long established relationship with the Russia. Therefore, no wonder why they spend such a huge amount to keep their base in Pakistan !
