Where to go?

No democratically elected Govt has invested or worked towards laying good planned drainage system. Most well laid drainage systems were done during the British period in the Indian cities. It is so because, no Govt wants to spend crores just to fix drainage system which nobody will see or appreciate, unlike a Metro rail.

clean the drains
by deepak vora on Nov 13, 2015 02:45 PM

The storm water drains are made all over the city but with no connections to drain the water to sewerage lines ; so as soon as the water fills up the drains it floods and moreover the waste from the vendors and tea stall and fruit vendors are just dumped on the road and as it rains the jams occur and floods.

Rainwater harvesting
by ganesh pillai on Nov 13, 2015 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

This is the most simple solution for water logging in cities where the surface is covered with concrete 90% or more. Where do you expect the water to go ?

Also drains should be kept clean which cannot happen because we are Indians

Unfortunately it's forgotten after the rain, during the rain the govt officials ding even make a statement... This is all over India in major cities!!concretisation from spend to end n pedistrian path fully cemented or paver block? Unscientific, even trees trunk covered with cement!! In us n many the pedestrian paths have small islands of plants where water can drain, grounds larger where water gets drained, water tanks n ways are free free of structures. Here we will see housing inside tanks n water ways!! Water harvesting is there only in books !! Water goes to sea n no way the water to store??

Unutilised opportunity

Government should have done much more to store the water. Though they have the capabilities, infrastructure & manpower to do so, but failed.

One of the reasons for stagnation in Chennai is due to plastics which is clogging water drains for which we (people) are to be blamed.
