What I cant understand is how could simply fighting British be equated to the idea of a " freedom fighter" ? Tipu , Laxmi Bai , Bahadur Shah etc were simply kings and queens fighting for their OWN STATE AND NOT INDIA as a whole ....Bhagt, Azad, Gandhi , Subhash are true freedom fighters of India not Tipu and Laxmi Bai.
There was no concept of nationality during Tipu era. The start of actual freedom movement could be traced only around periods of sepoy mutiny during 1857s. So Tipu can never be considered as a freedom fighter. Tipu is no different than other outside rulers who ruined our country. Giving charity to temples or respecting Hindu Gods doesnt mean he is a tolerant king. There were several valiant kings/rulers in Karnataka who also found against the British East India Company like for example Kittur Rani Chennamma. Jayanti of her could also be celebrated, why only Tipu ?. Why should a state body celebrate anybodies birthday forcefully knowing the fact that it could raise communal sentiments. Tipu did conversions is a known fact which cannot be denied by the so called historians and tolerant intellectuals!!!.
He was one of the most barbaric and religious fanatic person who killed countless Hyxndus and Chryxtians not even spared small kids and women, converted them and made them slave, destroyed Temples and Churches. It's very unfortunate that we and all the generations were taught a manipulated and tampered history about him which the quite normal case in India. Celebrating his birth is like rubbing salt to the serious injuries and hurting and making fun of people who had suffered.

Tipu Sultan ,Bahadurshah zafar etc, sacrificed their lives , their kingdom, their children for the nation fifhting against British.they were not like others who saved their kingdom ,lives by saluting and hugging BRITISH.

Mughal & British were outsider and made encroachment in Indian territory. Both are enemy of India and destroyed the Indian culture, Hindu Temple.
Hyder & Tipu are to be compared with a beast who captured and tried to eat the cow(India) but couldn't withstand against another beast of terror (British) who gobbled both of them. Definitely Tipu, the conqueror of S India, wanted to eat(rule) S.India, all alone but British spoiled his party. He definitely wanted S India freed from British for reasons stated above.
