Pilot Fatigue
by Keki Patel on Mar 27, 2015 01:38 PM  | Hide replies

The German Wings flt crash looks like its heading towards a murder case, which in any case cannot absolve the airline, airbus maybe.

However, pilot fatigue is a very major factor affecting safety. Today, the world over airline pilots are complaining about fatigue, but managements avoid listening. Profit being the sole motive, they recruit lesser pilots and flog the ones who fly with them.

In most parts of the world, pilots have unions to take up their cause and regulatory agencies to complain to if managements deprive them of mandatory rest and if 72 flying hrs a month are exceeded.

Not so in the Middle Eastern countries where the enforced limit is 90 hrs. Unions are forbidden, aviation regulatory authorities are rubber stamps dictated to by the states as they are owner driven and not independent entities. In such a culture accidents may be just waiting to happen, in spite of technically advanced safety systems in place.

In the end, its the man behind the machine that counts and it make no sense if he is fatigued, stressed out or asleep.

Thank you for bringing up this important issue not at all being covered by the report above.

I would think it is irresponsible to quote 'a friend' saying the pilot was depressed. Was he really clinically depressed? The media should be more responsible. Desperate for quotes, they are speaking to 'mother of a former classmate'. They should wait for official inquiry and give the honest picture.

No Pilot fatigue. This man was a 'nut' and I wonder how he allowed to fly the plane

This is typical of the hare-brained and emotional populace in the Desh - generalize everything for an isolated incident. Time to grooww up

Theory

Blaming Co-Pilot could be a theory to save AIRBUS, GERMANWINGS & Lufthansa from damage of reputation. Once, every one is dead and there cannot be an evidence to challenge theory, it may have been decide to blame co-pilot so that reputation of these 3 concerned can be saved.
