Some information India can learn from Singapore
by Amit Sharma on Mar 25, 2015 08:34 PM  | Hide replies

Some information India can learn from Singapore. This is very important for nation building remember.

1) Lee Kuan Yew said meritocracy is most important for nation building and unless you put the best people for best or right position, we cannot progress. Government jobs, political position impacts nation. Smriti Iran is one live example, If Lee Kuan Yew was there, he would first kick smriti irani since you cannot compromise student career for pleasing one woman. Meritocracy. Caste system is the enemy of meritocracy.

Lee said India's private sector is superior to China means India is doing poorly at public sector. Remove all inefficient people who are chosen based on caste based politics and reservation. One singaporean called they are parasites who are eating on nation wealth and doing nothing. Select best people for government jobs and run it like private. For that caste based reservation must go. You can educate and train people who are OBC/BC and make them efficient but only on merit to be chosen. If they think government selection committee does partiality or discrimination with OBC, outsource candidate selection to external agencies from foreign country who will chose on merit. India leaders were brainless who did not think out of box and this is difference between Lee Kuan Yew and pathetic Indian leaders

2) Nation is run on pragmatism (practical approach not ideology)... If nations are run on ideology, one group will say our almighty said we did this in 6th century AD and this is now to be done in 21st century. One group will say we believe in particular ideology which can refresh people mind because it was written in book and sanskrit is answer for all problem. This approach will not work in 21st century where politics and governance has multiple issues with technologically connected world.

Lee Kuan YEw realized changing time and led from an example.

NAtion is not run on ideology or ideologue like saying we will make India 20 trillion dollar economy without giving roadmap or exaggerating things. If some politician lies like we will bring 15 lakhs in people account, and does not happen it affects his integrity and discipline.

Talk what is possible, give examples which are relevant in todays life not about scriptures which is guiding force but it does not apply in practical world. India leaders specially BJP/Shiv Sena/VHP/MIM/Bukhari group has full of these people.

Lee

It is the discipline of a nation that will determine its people destiny. Lee said there is no guarantee authoritative or dictatorship or democracy will solve problem. It is the discipline of a nation that will determine its destiny and it will come only via politics.

It is irrelevant how many runs Sachin Tendulkar score or shah rukh movie become hit, it is important that social and economic issues are solve via good and inclusive politics, discipline to make effort to eradicate corruption. Dont allow corruption to hijack growth, take action and very strict action who take law in hands. If this was done in singapore like incident done by communal groups in Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew would have taught them such lesson that they would never forget in life. Be strict with people. Dont allow religion to dictate terms, allow religion and binding force to unite people. Dont allow democracy in giving religious views, this is the area these fanatics take to divert people

Not only this Lee Kuan Yew life has many examples. FYI, Lee Kuan YEw is considered as one of the only 2 or three nation builders till now. Gandhi was passionate to got freedom, Nelson Mandela worked all his life for people right, but Lee Kuan Yew got his country freedom from British, he made his country survive and then reformed and made it prosperous, so he is much bigger than Gandhi and Nehru put together. His contribution to world specially in communal harmony where singapore ranks very high and removing social class amongst chinese is much appreciated.

Lee Kuan YEw says a hallmark of any great country is how it treat its minorities. Like Singapore 75% chinese people never dominated its ethnic indian and malaysian community which he said in parliament I did not allow chinese community to overrule minorities by making minority representation in parliament mandatory and Singapore housing policy in government HDB flats of accommodating people of all religion and country quota so that no social enclave or groupism occurs. Lee policies were out of box, banning of chewing gum, making singapore billingual and multilingual country and because of that they get work from all over world and reason singapore is headquarter to most MNC in Asia since they have people who can speak and communicate in all language to connect to business in countries where language is barrier. India struggle since it has only english speaking people and not multilingual..sanskrit is smirti iran goal

Nobody mention in article here, but since Lee Kuan Yew is my mentor and ideal, Lee Kuan Yew first name is Harry Lee. He added Lee Kuan to connect to those chinese people during his first election. Lee Kuan family was straits chinese, means those chinese who left mainland china and living in malaysia and singapore region for decades and they have more malay connection than chinese, they associate more with british system than communist system in china and Lee Kuan was englsih speaking and later he learned chinese.

Very dissapointed with some and media

Some people said he was a dictator. They dont know meaning. If you want to see dictator go to Arab countries specially in libya and egypt and see. In their rule there is no election, no voting, no voice.

In Singapore there is election, freedom to choose religion and do everything except on sensitive topics which can create social disharmony. you see their communal harmony. 9 out of 10 people happy with social harmony.

Some say Lee crushed his opposition and put him in jail. It is wrong, he never crushed his opposition, there is Workers party in Singapore but he never allowed opposition party to flourish since you can see his son said workers party is incompetent to rule multicultural singapore and they have more chinese intention than multiracial PAP.

During one of my trip, I was moved when one India got into a fight with a chinese guy and started saying you chinese people are bad in Singapore, to which that chinese replied to india.. what chinese chinese you calling, Singapore is a multicultural country ... first time i saw in foreign country that in a fight he is talking about unity force than compare to england or australia where indians are looked down and taunted for their race. You can see on youtube video india and chinese fighting in singapore MRT train. Lee did have some shortcomings like he believed democracy is not presumption and wont solve all problem. More than democracy, it is the discipline of a nation that will determine its people destiny. Discipline

if you see youtube video of history of singapore in 5 parts you will see how hard he tried to get Independence for singapore and his only option was to merge with a huge neighbour Malaysia. After merging with malaysia, he wanted malaysia for everyone than just for majority Mus community, his PAP party had people from all community.

During her merger with malaysia, Tuku the PM of Malaysia refused to merge with singapore, but Lee went on a charm offensive for a merger, since he thougt it is only way to get rid of british.

Malaysian PM Tunku did not like Leee interfering for equal rights for indian, chinese and malay, Malaysians wanted special status for Malay M community. That argument created worst race riots between chinese singaporean and Malaysians, and because if it Malaysian kicked out Singapore out of its federation. Singapore was struggling to survive.

From there read his story, he created and built singapore out of nothing. His nation building example is lesson and even relevance in todays India. This Lee is very tall leader. He may noit be relevant to India, but his achievements are lessons for India to transform India..

His last word to India. It is the discipline of a nation for success..

Remember discipline... chant this words in school and practice it... what you say, do it than just talk like our politicians

He is a mentor for me. i respect him a lot, RIP. Years ago when he visited India and the last day he said " you cannot achieve anything without discipline ". i want everyone must chant his wordings daily 50 times at least in schools. this was a good words for third rated country like India.

that's easy, chanting is easy, of course if it comes with some incentive.
But in a country like india, it will stop at chanting, that's it.
