Modijis visit
by Suchandra Dey on Jul 07, 2015 10:28 PM

PM Modi is visiting these countries as these countries were comprised in the earlier Soviet Union and they do not harbour any ill will towards India.Whether they are ruled by dictators or not is not our lookout, our PM knows that India's interest is paramount and India needs some more friends for its growth and development.

Dictators
by Suresh Pachori on Jul 07, 2015 09:19 PM

On the on hand the writer says that these three counters have dictators ruling over them who clamp down on the press and dissent. Then if no news is allowed to get out how does he get the information that these rulers are repressive? On the basis of Human rights activists who also said Indian army is doing repression in Kashmir ! All these ideas of Western democracies Western banks are the cause of turmoil in the world the latest being Greece. So no importnce should be given to%2

I think most of the countries, more or less, get the kind of leaders they deserve. Our society, our sentiments etc have to be reviewed if we are not satisfied with the kind of govt we have. It is not that every country is aspiring to become a democracy etc. For certain societies orderliness, steady predictable life, peace etc are more important than maximum liberty, freedom of expression etc. So it is not right to criticize the govts of other countries so long as the society they rule value a different set of characteristics as being more desirable to them.

Why selective amnesia?
by pradeep agarwal on Jul 07, 2015 08:34 PM  | Hide replies

The writer is simply using his understanding of democracy & extending it to countries in question. Can he question the regime in China & Russia equally repressive for centuries? It is very easy to lecture on other nations, but our own track record o human rights in NE & J&K is not very faourable.

democracy
by Praja Prabhakar on Jul 07, 2015 07:16 PM

Perhaps the author wants these countries to go democratic. Introduce democracy here and they will go the way of the dictators who fell during the Arab Spring. Islamists will takeover. Maybe, the author prefers this.

The author seems to be criticizing Modi for going to these countries. Who rules in these countries in their business. We are going there for our mutual benefit and good relations. Anything Modi does is not acceptable to these pseudo anti Modi journalists. Which counties have these dictators invaded unlike the greatest democracy US? Modi is improving relations all over and these guys are not happy with his visits. They need to grow up.

These countries will not allow nonsense talk like the author is writing in this article. Moid should be congratulated for opening up new avenues of trade and countering the Islamists and China
