Indian Railways - Air India Way...!!!..
by ramamani sadasivan on Feb 26, 2015 02:16 PM  | Hide replies

If Dinesh Trivedi's article is read thoroughly, you can understand the pain that he is feeling after seeing the way, it has been misused by sucession of
Ministers of Congress, and Others. I wish somebody feels for the Railways like Mr Trivedi and tries to the " repair " job immediately, rather than " dump " the Railways by the Road side. My own feeling is that - with the amount of ' armtwisting ' that happens in the Central Govt. ministries, the Bullet train is far fetched dream in our country. Even with this " massive " majority " Mr Modi has not been able to show much results in the NINE months that he has been in Power. Bullet Trains need Land and not all Land is vested in the Govt. and hence, people with vested interested would hold a miniscule land in their hold to " thwart " a good project like Bullet Train coming up...!!!...Hope I am wrong.

Let the NDA GET SUPPORT OF RAJYA SABHA. You will get the result, because our PM visualised this in 2002.

Great info but dont share pessimism
by amar saraswat on Feb 26, 2015 12:24 PM  | Hide replies

This is a great piece of info if you are trying to understand the basics of Railways.
I think Dinesh has missed out on the land that is under railways control which can be monetised as well and the various PPP that can generate money.
1. Lease stations to corporates who can spend money on their maintenance & revitalisation with provision of ultra modern facilities and in lieu can do their branding on it and set up their stores.
2. Tie-ups with telecom, food, retail , media to give them access to the millions of passengers who travel by train every day.

3. Use land and lease it out to SMEs and retailers.

There are many others which can be implemented.
ALL THE BEST TO THE RAILWAY MINISTER

Why this person is diverting the issue? Darshans are not becuase of railway's fault, its because of inadiquate infra & absence of basic ameneties to public with the result of uncontrolled flow of population from rural to urban.

Indian Mindset
by PK Sagar on Feb 26, 2015 10:07 AM

Nothing exemplifies the Indian mindset better than their reaction after the two budgets. They want everything free or almost that way and yet complain of lack of development. Try doing anything and government is criticized by all political parties and masses so bitterly that one shudders even at the thought at attempting to do anything. And add to that this hyperactive media who are in race with one another for upping their TRP ratings. Then the all pervasive corruption from top to bottom completes the circle. Is there any hope for this country

Railway land is a big monetisable asset
by Pradeep Srivastava on Feb 26, 2015 09:41 AM

Indian Railways has huge chunks of prime land in every city through which the tracks pass.
The technology available in the country allows it to build and operate tunnels within the confinement of city. Well a good part of Metro works this way. many countries in the world have done it.

This is a costly process. But the earnings from the land released in the prime areas will offset the cost many times. Add to this the benefits to the society in terms of hygiene and safety when the open land belonging to Railways is not used for defecating and for crimes, specially towards women can be a game changer.

I wish Sri.Trivedi had spoken sooner and Sri.Prabhu had a chance to listen to him. For the first time, I hear someone speaking about Railways in management terms; not jargon but about the nuts and bolts.

It is really Good to Read that, Mr. Trivedi, instead of criticising Mr. Prabhu has properly understood and appreciated the difficulties of the Minister in Charge. Let there be more and more of such persons. He is thousand times better than Mamta, Lalu, Nitish and Mallikarjun. Sincerely feel that, NAMO and Prabhu should invite him for a healthy discussion and take a reasoned view.
