We in India appreciates Pakistan's growing military power but Pakistani regime must not construe that they will take kashmir out from India. Jammu and Kashmir is an indispensable part of India and will remain so forever. I again warn Pakistani army and Pakistani's intelligence agency ISI for any conspiracy against India as it will wipe out pakistan from the world map. Today's missile power is more crucial than airforce or armoured vehicles. India has already established supremacy in the field of ballistic missile and pakistan stands no where. Both Pakistan and China cannot withstand against invincible power of India. What I want Pakistan must work for peace and fraternity. I also do not support any type of communalism. Now it is up to Pakistan to understand what type of language they understand. We in India obviously want a prosperous and secular Pakistan not Pakistan that is controlled by fundamentalists and ill-minded people.

Jai Hind,
Niraj Chandra Srivastwa

Giving cognizance to Condoleezza Rice doctrine make more sense
by Ramesh on Feb 04, 2015 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

The US focus on Asia-Pacific has to be seen in the context of historical commitments made to Taiwan, Phillipines and Japan vis-a-vis China and erstwhile Soviet Union. It has become increasingly difficult to scale up to the rising rate of Chinese military growth rates. So Japan is encouraged to defend on its own and India to step in. These needs are however for long term, in immediate terms US balance is comfortable.

Plus Chinese have invested heavily in US, any economic disruption, can only spiral inflation in US economy and severe losses in financial markets. Given these vulnerabilities, and consequent lobby pressures, plus the non-immediacy of threat due to peaceful rise of China, the focus remains on win-win with China for US politicians.

They are not exactly enthused to befriend Indians and feel Starbucks tall. But Indian think-tankers apparently see strategic shift while there may really be none. India is better off reconciling fully with Pakistan. Such a reconciliation cn make a tectonic change in regional economy. If both make joint appeal to NPT status, none can refuse. It would be a win-win game for both sides and for democracies everywhere. The precondition for such a scene change is taming of Pakistani security establishment and no direct talks to them by any power.

Unless such an understanding is reached, it is safer to be wary of verbiage about good, better or best. A similar articulation was made by Dr. Rice, but overriden by Af-Pak.

The political blunder of Congress which has weakened India considerably and now distances India and Pakistan has been to play up the communal card.

There is a cultural component and a religious component to Sangha Parivar. And both these legacies are shareable across party lines. The dependence on lineage based leadership and discredited communal bogey has decimated Congress itself. A precious asset to forge deep bilateral understanding with Pakistan has been frittered away by marginalizing genuine Congressmen of yesteryears.

It is uncertain whether consensus can be found to risk efforts for genuine reconciliation with Pakistan consistent with values Mahatma lived and died for. This subversion of Indian strategic vision in the quest of coping with emerging threats is a matter which deserves deeper deliberation.

A premise that RSS vision is primarily cultural, and their articulation, need not be vested with political significance, can become credible only if communal bogey is discarded. This done, ground for consensus with Pakistan, such that India becomes a factor of stability for marginalization of their internal Islamic terror threat, becomes firm.

There is adequate technology and resources in the region for making the subcontinent rapidly middle-class. This variant of Middle-Class economy is something with which President Obama would surely be delighted!

Rafi,

RSS defends Hindu interests. Then there is the grave history of partition riots which had instigating factors of different kind, which would have colored your perception. These givens of history can not be denied.

RSS has worked towards removing untouchability, for which Mahatma himself endorsed RSS. They have worked to bring social equality by seeking to eliminate caste hierarchy. They have also worked against conversion efforts by other religions.

Indian society, with its admixture of diverse castes and religions, is of mega dimension and very long heritage, in its context, RSS is just a tiny institution over a tiny slice of time. Think on matters of such great import as ties between two nations, this institution is of not much consequence. Besides, its role will be to foster unity, goodwill and stability in society consistent with Constitutional values of India. It is their nationalistic spirit which hopefully, after due reflection, you will begin to fathom and trust.

Mr Ahmed - your words would have more credibility if you first reform your islamic beliefs rooted in the medivial times. Give equality to women, make it illegal to have four wives, throwing women out i the street by simply mentioning talaq, give respect to other beliefs. Give full freedom to people who do not believe in gods. Then and only then preach to Hindus and others.

The history of US partnering nations has been a mixed one. While Germany, Japan, Taiwan and S Korea have been spectacular successes. Pakistan, Egypt, Iran and several Latin American nations are replete with cases of mindless interventions and even suppression of democracies.

India is now too big and formidable to permit mindless interventions. But the risk of relationship going awry and public opinion in India turning away from US is unaffordable by both.

To create a failure-proof relationship for vey long haul, if set as an objective, may lead to a policy framework which enables such an objective. The risks analyzed and understood can be averted.

One of the risk is distancing from Pakistan. This factor could have a bearing not only on Afghanistan, but Sinkiang and Tibet as well.

only foolish indians would trust America. China never trusts USA but makes use of it. The nasty crack on religious freedom by Obama at the end of his visit, violating every norm of decency, shows the true colors of the americans.
