keeps looking for opportunities to create history. He has his eyes very obviously on perpetual fame as a stand out man in modern Indian history. Ending up in the footnotes, just as the majority of Indian PMs eventually will, is a nightmare for him.

Modi is acutely aware of the fact that there would be at least a hundred PMs in Indian history by the time the republic is 500 years old (i.e, if the republic survives to be 500 years old).

Out of the 100 or so PMs in the countrys 500 year old history, with the average span of rule of each PM around 5 years, most names would be ignored by students and researchers of history (not to mention commoners). Their attention perhaps would stay for a fleeting few minutes more on names that are associated with truly distinctive records.

Modi knows very well, just as every other PM knew very well, that the window of time available to him to get into that select list that would engage the eyes and thoughts of future students and researchers is very small.

Unfortunately, distinctive achievements call for distinctive qualities. And distinctive achievements on the part of PMs that can retain their glow for centuries call for outstandingly distinctive qualities of statesmanship, leadership, political acumen and powers of judgement.

Narendra Modi knows in his mind that, despite all that labour with postures, verbal outpourings and state resources to build hype about himself, he really does not have that distinctive glint that can fetch

him that coveted niche among the PMs of the country !

In 68 years of independent India, there already have been 15 PMs. And 500 years hence, it would be a big stretch for history students of today to imagine honestly that people will remember any of them other than perhaps Nehru (if only for the sole reason that he piloted the passage of the country from the colonial era to the independent republic stage). Indira Gandhi may find that distant consideration in perhaps the same measure as Razia Sultana is today.

However, all the Rajivs, Shastris, Morarjis, Charan Singhs, Gujrals, Gowdas, Vajpayees and Manmohan Singhs will in all certainty, be relegated truly to the footnotes in fine print !

It is from these fine print footnotes that Modi is so obviously trying to clamber out from !

Narasimha Rao too will be consigned to the footnotes in time !

As the centuries pass, 5 year rules will become less noticeable, however much the ruler had distinguished himself (except perhaps in historically very ironic situations such as Sher Shahs intruding 5 year rule in the time of the Mughal emperor - Humayun) !

I have no hatred towards the Nehru dynasty, just as I do not have any particular love for it.

Centuries later, all that would matter to history students is the actual relative relevance of various rulers and regimes, not the political affiliations or prejudices of today.

I also liked the gesture of Sharif when he travelled in the same car and helicopter with our PM to dispell any fear in our mind about safety of our PM.

Pak Visit
by Pramit sharma on Dec 26, 2015 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

Yes every party is praising the move of our PM because the Pakistan PM had taken them all in confidence and informed them about the visit. In our country our PM really forgot to talk to opposition and discuss the issue with them.

Check Mr Modi's comments when he was in opposition and during election campaign. Hypocrite number one. There is a great difference between statesman and conman.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Pak. visit.
by Nallathambi Kandasamy on Dec 26, 2015 04:21 PM

It is a required and good visit. As spelled out by Pakistan Defence Minister, Mr.Khawaja Asif, this kind of visit needs to be continued and reciprocated by Pakistan side for the betterment of our neighborly relations and for the maintenance of peace along the line of control between both of our teeritories, particularly in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Let there be no terrorists entering the Indian side of Jammu and Kashmir from the Pakistan side of Kashmir.

What you sow, so shall you reap... The way you criticize Congress for anything and everything, you cannot expect anything better from them. So, you criticize them for everything and you get back what you give them. Its as simple as that.

So, if you want to get appreciation, you must learn to appreciate others. If at all anybody has done something wrong, government can take steps to correct it now (because the government has power to do it) instead of that, you keep on blaming and criticizing one and sundry and so, do not expect appreciation from anyone.
