place on earth that is now close to apocalypse, then that certainly is the Indian sub-continent !

The Indian sub-continent is actually far beyond the point of no-return in terms of environmental sustainability and resources sustainability.

It has far too many people increasingly chasing far too few resources to hope for a sustainable future !

And, to compound matters beyond redemption, the consumption of the gigantic Indian population is slowly climbing (on the back of very high conspicuous consumption by a minority).

China, the nearest equivalent in terms of size of population, has only 85 % of the sub-continents population but 2.5 times as much land and resources.

China can afford a severely polluted Beijing immensely more than India can afford a severely polluted Delhi !

But China has many meaningful measures in place for long to fight Beijings pollution while the half measure that Delhi has just taken is mocked at by those who suffer most from pollution - its commoners !

In a review of the state of the worlds environment, Mr. Pachauri, the former head of the IGPCC had stated thus : The Indian sub-continent has for quite some time been in the first few loops of a possibly uncontrollable tailspin into environmental disaster. The more the Indian government and the Indian people look at the need to fight climate change and the man made pollution that causes it with light heartedness, the more the sub-continent will descend into the cortex of the tailspin !

by ASA C on Dec 17, 2015 11:15 AM

What is the position of storm water piping in Chennai? politicians of very less know how should not decide where roads and drainage etc to be provided. It is the duty of Technical Experts. I think Chennai is like a village. It needs Urban drainage system, storm water system, Electricity distribution system, in house substations, fire fighting etc etc,

Dear friends,
It reminds me of DIVISEEMA which was washed away in Cyclone in Nov 1977 with 20000 deaths none survived. Brave Students served.

There is a lot of talk about poor town planning, marshland encroachment. Let's not make this politics.
Even well planned places like T.Nagar,Mylapore,Adyar,Annanagar and many more where water level gone aboove 6FEET.I am a resident of T.Nagar GOPAL Street on 2nd December evening within one hour water level rose from one feet to 6Feet "Could see the Cars floating" We need solutions right now and quick. We have a situation of dire crises unfolding in Chennai. We have hundreds of thousands of climate refugees taking shelter in schools, malls, Theatres, marriage halls and religious establishments. There are tens of thousands more who need to be rescued. These people need food, clothes, sanitation facilities and medicines. There is flooding all over the city -- the water isn't just rain water, it is rain water mixed with sewage. We are at the brink of a disease breakout.
Many Brave young people participated in rescue operations and "large scale Cooking and distributed food packets for 3 days.
No one imagined that this could happen to Chennai. We were just a happy little town content with our Bhakti,Devotion and Coffee.
But humanity has won over once again. Caste, creed, religion and social background have become immaterial. Who said we are an intolerant society? Look at Chennai, the collective good is the only th
