Villagers threw stones at his home out of JEALOUSY, because of the help he received from outsiders -- not because "he is Dalit". According to the news I read, the stone-throwers were also Dalit.

The teacher, Mr. Sharma kindled the fire in him and Mr. Sharma was not a dalit. Poor Brahmin children are more dalit than DALITS. A boy from a very poor Brahmin family, I know how was I despised by some teachers because of my poverty, my inability to get a footwear and my shabby attire.(there were of course many kind hearted/ compassionate teachers around, without whom boys from poor family would not get basic education). Humans are humiliated mainly because of poverty - poor dalits are humiliated, not the dalits like Babu Jagjivan Ram's son.

Agreed. I am also from a Brahmin family, which was poor when I was born, and remained poor till I had completed school. The condition improved later, and we moved to "lower middle class". I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE A POOR BRAHMIN BOY, and I have continuously suffered due to "reverse discrimination.
I dont know, why caste is coming for selection in premier Institute like IIT,IIM, where as the so difference in mark for SC/ST getting the chance but General caste from poor family not getting the chance though secured more marks....then SC/ST ... Here I am not against the ST/SC am against the Govt method for selection procedure for IIT/IIM... Like Raju/Brijesh so many students are in India, even I notice one boy from J&K... It is really good that Raju/Brijesh get benefited from all section of society............. General public and Govt need to think on it...........

A Dalit reqd 35 marks and a General student need 105 marks for the same. So,our quota system helped them at the cost of General category student.
Nice One. It encourages so many. Just one point. You want to be IAS officer after completing BTech. Country needs better engineers like you than an IAS officer. You can be an IAS officer after any graduation, not an Engineer. Request you to be a great Engineer in future. Govt has helped you, people have helped you to make you a class engineer. Aspire to be Sir Kalam. I can understand your feeling cos similar story is there in my life, but now I am an engineer and is happy to work as Engineer through out my life. But at last choice is yours, so think and decide.
Hearty congratulations. Your determination inspires me a lot. Though i am from an upper caste family, i dont hesitate to fall on the feet of your parents for giving birth to such a great children. I read out this story to my son who is seriously preparing for IIT JEE 2017
