this gentleman assume every thing what ever he says is right .he seems to forget that Bhagiratha brought Ganga from Himalayas to Plains of bharata not by magic but by proper forethought his marvelous engineering feat has made North Bharat green. He also must see California gets its water from a river which is as far as 1000 KMs. there so many cases in the world where rivers joined for the benefit of people otherwise he must tell how to provide water to most of Bharat to get rid of floods or drought and should execute the same or must keep quit

Interlinking of rivers
by Rakesh Gupta on Apr 27, 2015 11:05 AM

It is not true that ILR is planned after 2002 or 2012. The idea of linking of rivers was mooted by Mrs. Indira Gandhi in early '80s and in 1982 an organisation, National Water Development Agency was set up for studying the project. After preliminary detailed studies the agency found some link techno-economical feasible and GOI assigned the preparation of Detailed Project Reports to the agency. The cost as mentioned in the article is purely on desktop studies, the actual cost of the individual link scheme will be assessed based on the detailed investigations. I think the expert has not fully aware these facts. However, there are some improvements in each & every idea of planning. So instead of criticizing the planning give some fruitful ideas for the scheme.

linking rivers
by Venkatesh Iyer on Apr 27, 2015 10:54 AM

The cost of linking rivers through whatever means does not appear to be economically sensible or practically possible. Even if one links rivers, it is advisable for it to be a state project than a national one so that it is manageable to build and maintain too. Venkatesh Iyer

There must be a balance between surplus and deficit.Linking, if, can ensure balanced distribution of water then where is the question of disaster. Rest all the parameters of differences can be taken care of if we are Indians first then natives of a state.

foolish idea river linking

one of the most illogical ideas ever imagined. river is born to run its natural course and empty into ocean ultimately. in between it may be damned and used for irrigation but its course should not be interfered with. nature will tolerate only certain limit of abuse and we ahve long crossed that

don't ask foolish questions. the sweet water empties into oceans for millennia. when you block it you will get more and more sea erosion as is being witnessed. in front of nature's wisdom you are not even an ant

Linking of river
by arungopal agarwal on Apr 27, 2015 10:28 AM

Our constitution has failed to people aspiration today, it is to be changed/amended/reformed. We need more and more land for agriculture and big cities need more and more land to accommodate growth of unwanted population. Making barren land cultivable is the only soluton.
Those who are objecting to such idea are creating hindrance and are anti national, they perspire even with the concept to control the unwanted population.

When something is sought to be done for the better welfare of the people, there will be some "experts" who will be ready to jump to call it impractical, unconstitutional, ecological disaster, etc. These cassandrahs will emerge from nowhere to please some jornos who wish to remain in limelight. Narmada has been recently linked to Sabarmati in Gujarat and this has brought considerable relief to people of Ahmedabad and Saurashtra. Why are some so called experts crying foul

The pioneer of this idea of interlinking all rivers in India is perhaps Tamil Nadu. Supreme Court normally obliges TN when it comes to river waters, whatever be the fairness of fact.
