Good to see this interview. There are 66 agricultural universities in the country and 29 thousand agricultural scientists and technicians in the country. No doubt they have been doing good work. But it is a matter of deep concern for us that from slightly lesser land and lesser irrigated areas China is producing more than double the quantity of our foodgrains 275 mts against 600 mts. Our crop yields even in the green revolution crops of wheat and rice are below the world average. We are largest producer of milk but that is because the number of our milch cattle is so much more than any other country. The milk yields don't compare. Our farmer is quick to respond to something that is really beneficial like mexican wheat developed by late Borlaug, introduced here six decades ago. We can continue to call this adm as father of green revolution but he is recognised as the one the world over. So we need people of that caliber and persistence in agricultural research in this country. Just adopting and adapting varieties and breeds is not enough.
