There is a lot of humbug but equal number of effective solutions and remedies in many superstitous methods and ways. One needs to keep open mind...have acceptance that even if i don't understand the principles at work here, the intended result is acheived. If intended results are acheived, one should study the core components and devise solution devoid of useless ritual to benefit the humanity.
I am a witness to even more bizzare ritual in Gujarat.....but upon scientific digging deeper, the ritual followed a perfect law to cure a dreaded disease using a herb known to have that compound that heals along with milk, milk allowed the fat soluble herb to be absorbed effectively hence curing the disease. This process though scientific has now been given bad name of superstition by others.......same guys who switch off TV's when India's wicket falls or drink tea continously just because first cup got opponents wicket.
The first person in the photo rolling over the Made is a brahmin. So no need to mention as "Dalits or people from the lower castes roll over the banana leaves"
All heinus rituals should be banned and performers who defy to be punished.Law enforcing authority do not use force for the fear of onslaught by the Andhvishwasi crowed.Lack of awareness and fear of dietys wrath are the main reasones for this ongoing andhvishwas.
They all were framed according to time and circumstances in certain time in every religion, but now outdated with the change and development to today time. Today Hindus have otherwise changed to new governance and system except few traditional issues, still advanced education is required to remove all such evils.
