Even during general election time, when media started about MODI WAVE, people like you had said it is paid news, and the out come of the election results became a historical success to BJP and RSS,
Dear friend, this foreign policy of MOODI is certainly going to make india a developed country,
If you realy stand for democratic values, please allow BJP also to have experience to run the country, Otherwise india will become ancestrol asset of NEHRU FAMILY

India has lots of frnds but no one is reliable and at present not best frnd like Russia. It is dark side of India's diplomacy.

friendship is more about retention, which the previous govts failed - let's start afresh and see where it takes, though not a bad attempt which is already en route

Who is a reliable friend in international relations?

If you think China is a reliable friend of Pakistan - Forget it! Both have common goals and the friendship is "reliable" only as long as the goals are synergistic.

India and US should forge a strong partnership
by amar saraswat on Sep 26, 2014 05:02 PM

Its important that two of the biggest democracy's in the world forge a close economic and cultural relationship. Though US is much ahead of India in economic prosperity and military prowess India offers a huge market for American companies and a great example of a cultural melting pot of "unity in diversity" that can serve as a model for the rest of the world.
A sound and attractive policy should help US companies invest in power, mining, roads, housing, retail, healthcare etc. To ensure this the government should move fast on reforms in these sectors else the potential will remain a potential only on paper.

No Nixonian deals please!
by Ramesh on Sep 26, 2014 03:30 PM  | Hide replies

US intervention in Asia-Pacific led to spectacular outcomes but in much of Islamic world it led to unstable societies. India which is the common to both these regions has remained stable by warding off intervention via non-alignment.

This implied effort to recruit India against ISIL is counterproductive. There is convergence on two-state policy, but in most other aspects there is wide divergence between policies of the two nations, and these differences make room for healthier reconciliation process. To expect India to tow US line or cooperate as a price for partnership with India would be serious misreading of the political forces which shape India.

The tendency of US policy makers to make deals on political matters is counter-productive here. Two free nations are much better off creating legal structures and connectivities than deal making of the kind which was famously made with a totalitarian society that is China.

The terror issue can not be tackled by focusing on specific institutional setups only. One of the critical need is secular polity gaining ground in Pakistan over their security establishment. Preventive measures to avoid any instability here is of far greater import than any current terror threat.

India also faces threat from Maoists, and this threat has grown over the years. To expect India to do step away from its internal defensive needs and in process expose its diaspora to large-scale threat in West Asia is not fair.

Previous administration for various reasons have been strategizing to avoid closer relationship between India, Pakistan and Iran. More specifically IPI pipeline which could alter the energy economics of the region and spur economic development thereby serve as anti-dote for terror setups has been opposed on extraneous considerations.

A rethink on this matter can have a salubrious impact as a major terror mitigation measure, if not the single biggest preventive factor.

USA is a business country and to sell their arms to other country. Definately USA will support India if this is positive and negtive will be Islamic country and more threat from them to India and this is required by USA. Before playing games with USA PM should be very careful. secondly NRI of course yes after so many ears Modi visiting to USA 100% sure NRI particularly Gujarati community will welcome him but in investing in India they are also not sure will get any return due imblance of India's political seniro. Today is the BJP majority and who knows after five years indian voters will turn on which way hence they have insecurity of their investment. As a India they will enjoy with him but as a business policy every one will careful. The USA is an entirely different country in the world and they will not bow their hands because in their mind they are super power and no body can bit them and will play a game with India. We only hope will get some thing from USA and NRI. Let us wait and watch what exactly will come from this tour and how frequently he will visit to USA.

Rakesh,

I read and reread your post, and am still confused! Think India-US partnership is more for creating future products and processes, and also for current ones. It is better to think in terms of interaction between two vast and pluralistic societies to see the dimensions and complexities being enabled by the partnership. It is not only about government to government relationship.

Do not think that by becoming stronger and working with US,you invite threat from Islamic nations. If they have aggressive intent they will be deterred. Plus India does not have any evil design towards those Islamic nations.

US has sophistication and quality in its technology, but Indian volumes are fast catching up and scale shall supersede US in about a decade. So partnership for Indian development, and payoff for American capital make good sense. The two mega democracies will strengthen and safeguard each other.

Your usage of -We- presumes I am an Indian citizen, infact i am a US citizen, the perspective and interests are bit different.

USA is known as culture melting pot. we have the relation since long.because of Nehrus socialistic pattern of society linearity towards russia and china strained the relation.after 1962 debacle there was a close relation. even we purchase war materials from russia large chunk of our business is with USA.Both America and India facing danger from terrorists threat to India is grave one. Our mutual cooperation and assistance we can come out of danger. Thanks to USA and democracy. Long live USA.

we have to thank US for giving us so many opportunities
by brian crasto on Sep 26, 2014 02:30 PM  | Hide replies

We have to thank the founders of USA who helped the mold the thinking of US citizens. They have not only given the opportunities for Indians to get themselves educated, but also helped them in getting better standard of living and also get an opportunity to become senators. In fact a educated person to join politics, business or high paying salaries is very difficult unless you have a godfather. That is why i always call US a land of opportunities and India a land of hope for the helpless
