Senior citizens: Teaching and pension schemes
by shailesh on Mar 01, 2015 10:55 AM

The government should not just think of pension schemes for senior citizens but also seek to fruitfully engage them in development of the society in variety of ways: For example, many of these senior citizens would be much better and devoted teachers of primary and even secondary schools (which would be increasing in number across the state) then the current teachers in the school.

The requirement of passing some BEd or NET exam can be an overkill if it can be circumvented by a skill around teaching imparted as a short skill-enhancing course after which these senior citizens can be engaged in teaching work in school - for 2 to 4 or more hours.

This will make our senior citizens more fruitfully engaged in society and feel more satisfied themselves.

I still remember that my best, most engaging and entertaining teacher (at home) was my grandfather. He used to take great delight in teaching and I found my experience most fulfilling.

(Know that quality of teaching is proportional to delight teacher takes in teaching)

Well done Rediff labs. One of the surveys where it becomes pertinent to work on states where disparity is much more. Karnataka and West Bengal remain areas where work is needed so that villagers are empowered and given more opportunities. This is possible when rail network is strengthened and more companies are opened in rural and small towns in these states. But well done in other states like Delhi Punjab Nagaland Kerala

What the statistics doesn't imply
by Dhanamjaya S on Oct 03, 2014 06:33 PM

The magin between Urban and rural households is low due to following reasons:

1. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, districts are more, so people commute daily to nearest city for employment. Also government employee who are in Urban India, travel to rural places of posting, though it is a very minor percentage.

2. Commuting is very much higher now.

3. Part of commuting is due to 4-lane highways.
4. Wages of daily labor have increased in the green areas. Now people are earning 500-750 rs a day.

There may be other reasons, which people are welcome to discuss.

Real estate prices dominate major expenditure
by vinnie on Oct 03, 2014 03:03 PM  | Hide replies

It is difficult to make conclusion without going through underlying data. I think Rediff Lab should consider other factors to find out more. In most cities rent/home loan constitute major component of their expenditure. Prices in Nasik are 4000 p.s.ft. whereas in Surat they are around 3000 p.s.ft. Even though they are both located in industrial belt and have similar demand. However prices are driven upward by speculation of investors rather than demand/supply. In MH for example anyone can buy Agri land whereas in GJ or HP only existing farmer is allowed to buy Agri land. So in MH cities prices are almost 100% more than those in GJ because of government policies.

May be same trend is across India, where government policies related to Agri land and real estate impact expenditure?

Data Magic

It is really interesting that what data can do.manipur/nagaland the difference is less
as you dont have big urban centres like you see in other parts of the country.here urban and rural are more or less the same
except for few buildings. But interestingly these states lies in the same band as DELHi/Punjab which would be classified as rich states and seem to present a rosy picture of Manipur and Nagaland :-/.

There are acres of land aquired by MIDC which is not used for production may be used for creating bird sanctury instead of dumping darbage like dombivli midc near fire fighting station and manpada police station road use some land for your generation next to breath with out oxygen cylinders so is the gas pollution in vapi gas chambers so every development comes with pollution that must be cleared by the industry doing that instead of bribing pollution control babus now?

So far in every map produced by rediff labs, Kerala has been in top 3. But not Gujarat.
Take a look at the maps and decide for yourself.

Kerala, TN, have been in top. That is the anomaly of India. Some feku goes on shouting that his state is no.1 and all f00ls believe it. I have personally asked all my friends to look at economic and social indicators and decide, but even my literate friends believe a lie when it is told 1000 times
