During that time in 1986, USSR asked India to invade Pakistan. Rajib Gandhi after consulting these worthless officers and ministers contacted Benazir Bhutto and they had a good laugh. Then Benazir Bhutto send killers to J&K to exterminate the Kashmiri Hindus. This was Rajib Gandhi, his Idli-Dosa officers, and Doon School friends, who ruined India in every possible ways.

What can the nation or its people in general do if there are leaders who were spineless or did not understand the art of diplomacy . You cannot paint all officers in the same brush, especially not people like APV. Pls understand facts & matters, before any loose talk.
How did such a tactless man like APV ever pass UPSC,leave alone topping it.Then there is a glaring lacunae in the exam itself.Imagine such a tactless person masqueraded as a diplomat and a foreign Secy at that!Bravo India Bravo!

all the rattoos clear it... as is evident from the people living in those UPSC ghettos in Delhi and all those mushrooming coaching classes
AP Ventkateswaran was one year senior to Natwar Singh in IFS.
However, Natwar Singh having resigned from service joined politics and was promptly appointed MoS in External Affairs Ministry by Rajiv Gandhi in 1985.
Then AP Venkateswaran was appointed as Foreign Secretary by the PM.
AP was UPSC topper.
AP more often spoke more than necessary which is undiplomatic. He was a little more casual with the PM Rajiv Gandhi and Natwar warned APV on this matter a couple of times, not as an MoS but as a former colleague who wished good for his one year senior.
On one occasion, an IFS Officer who wanted to marry a East European woman had sent two letters to the Foreign Secretary; one seeking his permission to marry a foreigner as the same was not permitted as per service rules except by a written permission by Foreign secretary; and another letter which is a resignation. And he didn't know which will be accepted by APV. This man was on deputation to a PSU and was in India then. At a meeting of Rajiv Gandhi with the PSU Heads, he gave a submission to Rajiv. Rajiv took it to home and saw it and has written 'Pl.Discuss' to APV.
A few days later, APV met Rajiv and told Rajiv bluntly that the officer has violated the code of conduct by giving this representation to the PM. Rajiv kept quiet which is right as he can not refuse any one making a submission to the PM.
Then APV said, Sir, had you not married a foreigner this man would not have had the temerity to approach you.

This is inappropriate indiscretion on APV's part dragging PM's marriage into the matter.
That might be a matter of fact; but the Foreign Secretary has no business to tell the PM what prompted the IFS man to make a representation to the PM.
PM will have to accept first any representation given by any citizen of the nation. He can not deny it.
The Foreign Secretary can not pass unnecessary remarks, which is in fact a very hypothetical one in this case, in his discussions with the PM and that too involving his personal life.
APV was a brilliant man as Rajiv himself acknowledged and thus made Foreign Secretary. But these kinds of indiscretions are totally inappropritate that led to his dismissal which of course unnecessary in the manner it was done.
Even Sonia upbraided Rajiv in those days for his indiscretion in this matter the way he did it.
Apparently, Rajiv replied to Sonia that he didn't know the APV was sitting in the front row when he made this announcement in a reply to a journalist's query on a remark made by Foreign Secretary APV
A word of thanks from an ordinary Indian citizen for the publication of a view of his professional life. If we Indian citizens are going to stand up to the international world we need models like Shree A P Venkateswaran.

He openly came out against India backstabbing Tamil movement... and earned Rajiv's dislike.. History proved he was right
I had first met AP Venkateswaran Sir at the VIP Lounge of Palam Airport when I had gone to see off my boss (Dr. Prahlad Basu, then Secretary Steel and Mines). I found him to be a very humble person and a jovial too. He asked me as to how was my boss. When I was hesitating, he told me not to be afraid of my boss's presence and offered me in a lighter vain to tell him in his ears. Incidentally he also happened to be my neighbour. He lived in External Affairs Officer' Hostel, KG Marg and I was living in MS Apartments, KG Marg. One day I noticed him in my Block and he remembered me, though it was our second meeting only. I told him that I was living on that floor and he told me that one day he will visit my house. Such humble he was. We had never met thereafter. When he was unceremoniously removed, I was shocked. But the greater shock I got today when I got the news of his demise. RIP Pradeep Kumar

Don't write any more obituaries on Shri A.P. Venkateswaran. Just ONE itself made me almost come to tears !
