Buying Gripen as a part of MMRCA contest would be desastrus for India..
Gripen falls in Light weight category and it is similier to Indian LCA..
We need more powerfull twin-engin fighter which can have more payload and endurance..
AS we have a similer project(LCA) which is ongoing, there is no point in buying Grippen fighters..
But since Grippen seems to be little more advanced in terms of cockpit aveonics, data links, superb networking and low mentainance cost, we can ask grippen to serve as a technology partner to collaborate and co develope LCA Mark - II fighter..
grippen does not have its own engine..it also uses F404 engine like LCA..
But Indian Airforce wants more powerful engine i.e Improved G.E's F414 which can generate upto 120 KN of thrust.
Grippen is also working on replacing its f404 engine with more powerful f414 engine..
With this i conclude that Grippen Does not fit into IAF's MMRCA category but it fits only in Light weight category and hence its candidature can not be considered for MMRCA..

Defencce contracts have been major sources of corruption. We must proceed on the path of indigenous production of atleast 75% of our defence requirement. Hope this govt. does it. The first steps taken by this govt. are encouraging..wish they stay on course
