Dengue control through community action
by SUSANTA GHOSH on Nov 02, 2014 07:13 PM

It is correct. Malaria is transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes while Dengue by Aedes mosquito. Aedes are day biter, difficult to control because they breed in small containers. It needs community action to contain the breeding. There is good medicines for malaria whereas no medicines for Dengue. Vaccines against Dengue are underway and take some time for its availability. So we need to see that there is no water storing in and around our houses. The main breeding we found in water storing cement tanks.

Wow! Malaria deaths have actually dropped. That is commendable.

Dengue carrier mosquito breeds in clean water. So how will India tackle this?

You won't believe if told that my table fan kills 30 to 40 mosquitoes every day!

All you need is to keep a table fan on the window and keep it running through the night with air blowing towards the room i.e. sucking air from window.

The window should have net where the mosquitoes sit and are then sucked by the fan and killed by blades of the fan.

Besides killing mosquitoes the fan cools the room by letting in fresh cool air.
