In Both Maharashtra and Haryana BJP has an upper hand because (1) In Maharashtra all major parties have parted with their own way and people wanted a stable and majority single party government like in Centre. Another reason is high level corruption of the last regime. (2) In Haryana the corrupt and convicted Chautala is trying back door entry though his son and daughter-in-law and the image of current government is also so bad due to corruption and the notorious land deal case with DLF, Varda etc. Under these circumstances, people wanted change.

Their contribution doesn't matter ? Before 1960 Gujarat was part of Bombay state that is why there so many Gujaratis in Mumbai.
