the damage occured should be a lessen to our government/ town planning authorities. Any structure in the cyclone prone areas should be allowed only if it is designed to withstand wind speeds of 200 to 250 kmph, as we cannot avoid or stop the natural calamities, but we have technology to minimise the damages and it should be implemented in true spirit.

The problem in India is that, if you can exchange a couple of suitcases, the authorities would grant permission to construct structures that can only withstand wind speeds of 20.0 to 25.0 mph.

Good thread.

I am tired of reading infrastructure damage with every passing cyclone in orissa and andra pradesh.

Structures constructed over in such vulnerable areas should be designed with good technology available in modern times so that damage is reduced to a minimum.

Perhaps DRDO can help in this regard.

I think it will better that if with the speed of air vibration due to earth quake is considered when the design of a structure/building is done.

In the context of AP Coast being open to cyclones like this, it may be necessary to have a relook at the decision to make Vijayawada area capital of AP.

Minimum casuality

The current Central and State governments have very meticulously planned this disaster management in advance and therefore, saved the life of many. The history shows that in such disasters government machinery starts action at the 11th hour and by that time the damages happen beyond the control. Kudos to Mr Modi and Mr Chandra Babu Naidu for the excellent management.

Who is this Magnum ignorant Raje? following is the excerpt from first post - if at all he has understanding capacity :)

.The state government which earned worldwide praise for effectively handling Cyclone Phailin last year, has taken Hudhud cyclone as a challenge. The casualty in the Phailin was around 20.

EVEN AFTER 25% decrease in crude prices, Modi has not been able to bring down inflation and has become MaunModi on this issue, while on all other frivolous issue his mouth is wide open 24/7.

No body want to politicize this. This needs to be stated when such serious issue is on PM is Busy in election rallys. Its duty of PM to spend time with key people controling this. I dont understand how true justice can be done by addressing 4 election rallys in a day. Such delays by PM had already cost 58 deaths of soldier on Border. Similar delays where there in UP floods, J&K flood. How one can give good governace by addressing several rallies during calamity time.

For the first time ever in my memory, there was an advance warning that proved true, and the Government ensured timely response to be in rescue and relief preparedness that brought down casualty.
