national medals of science given out since 1962 in various disciplines, only 6 have been won by the Indian American community (whose scientific skills and contribution to American science have time and again been hyped to the skies by sections of the Indian media). By contrast, the Chinese Americans (who number just a little higher than the Indians in the US) have fared better with 12 medals - exactly double the number won by Indian Americans.
Considering that Indians in America (who now form 1 % of the US population) are substantially drawn from the choicest cream of the Indian academic community, it is sobering to see that the number of medals won by them is also just about 1 % of the total medals given out !
