The Indian doctors in United States also work very fast on their patients and sometimes make serious mistakes. Their training in India is poor in medicine but very good in cheating people to make money. The Indian doctors generally have very little or no aptitude for research leading to massive advancements in medicine. Indians are by nature Speedy and Short-Cut Gonzaleses by nature! They need strong courses in civcs and ethics.
when it is clear that its the bad quality of drugs that lead to the tragedy in chattisgarh, i think its a very insensible article to connect surgical speed with that.
It may other wise be a relevant point to be made, i.e the obsession with speed, but the context in which its being made it is not right.
The chattisgarh tragedy should raise points on corruption in drug procurements and in general, the hand in glove state administration with local manufacturers (of drugs and other items) and with why women are targetted for family planning when i believe its easier for men to go through a vasectomy.
Its not the Surgeons 'Love for speed" that caused the Chhattisgarh Tragedy. Similarly You cant blame Tendulkar/Sehwagor etc for playing fast cricket..Please raise the real issues of corruption in procuring government supply drugs that are without any quality control and politically affined.
I am a surgeon myself sir. And i know the love for a fast surgery. You have mentioned so many instances of people being into fast surgeries abd sort of brandished them. What i am interested is in knowing how many of their patient had complications due to fast surgery? A surgeon doesnt operate fast on the cost of safery. In chattisgarh incident too the problems occurred due to faulty generic medicines approved by prople only for monetary gains. Articles like yours just help wrong people to be framed.
I fully agree with Dr Sanjay Nagral that speed of surgery at the cost of safety of the procedure should be highly discouraged. Those surgeons who are trying to get their names published in some non-medical publishing as Limca records book etc should be publicly condemned. We all know what all happens in a camp on poor patients. There is often compromise at every aspects say sterilization of instruments, quality of drugs ,equipments-less said it is better. On top of it some surgeon to get a quick name and fame try to get some funny records like speed of surgery ,further comprising the quality of surgery done. So many patients have lost their eye-sights permanently at so called eye-camps for cataract. Every nonsense is possible in India.
This is the appropriate time for all sundry to appreciate REDIFF for their best of best articles which is very informative and from a reknowned surgeon.
Some of the messages, which are coming are disturbing, but informative.
Why should we opt for tubectomy? Just because ladies must carry all the burden and man only that of the master. Why not make vasectomy compulsory after two children of whatever gender linking it to all the benefits from the government. Sanjay Gandhi had true guts. e miss him so much whenever we talk about family planning in India.
