growth of cancer
by ramana rao on Jun 15, 2015 11:21 AM

As a cancer survivor, I have opportunity to study this- Stll over 80% of reasons for cancer- occurance are unknown- Doctors &Hospitals are not interested in prevention as they are busy making money from it.
The urgent need is to identify likely causes like
ecological, environmental / lifestyle, plastics usages etc and thro NGOs force Govt for suitable legislation

pesticide, anyone?
by Sriram Narayanaswamy on Dec 20, 2014 02:27 PM  | Hide replies

With the profound lack of regulation in pesticide usage, cancer is bound to increase. Similarly, anti-biotic usage in animal farming(poultry, dairy and meat) will lead to other severe setbacks for India and her economy. This is not some time in the future, but NOW. When will we act?

Very true, but no one wants to look at this angle at all. Body has to deal with so many poisons everyday, it just breaks down.

Foreign resturants
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Dec 05, 2014 11:53 PM  | Hide replies

Foreign restaurants like Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds use heavy preservatives and undesirable chemicals in their foods because their foods are not fresh. Heavy influx of non-vegetarian foods with meats containing hormones and other substances shall increase the levels of various types of cancer.

The junk food and stored food is cause of increase in cancer. The excessive use of pesticides , use of growth chemicals in farms, polluted water is also the cause. Moreover the increase in life expectancy also increases the possibilty.Another reason is detection. Many times people used to die of cancer without being diagonised.

While I don't deny the bad things about these foreign companies. They do not have a reach that can impact our national statistic. What could be contributing more is tobacco and smaller brands (that sell junk snacks in 5/- 10/- pouches) that use similar preservatives.

@ kiran kumar, well said. Its so easy for Indians to get all preachy against "phoren" influences. Lets fix our act first coz that has a bigger effect.

Lifestyle based diseases
by Ramesh M on Nov 17, 2014 03:28 PM

Its heartening to see those statistics. Although the above 4 diseases mentioned have been mainly due to life-style that we adopted, Cancer isnt necessarily only life-style based. Its just that we are detecting more cases of it due to the awareness campaigns.

Ofcourse we could argue that others are not strictly life-style based...but in India..they have been definitely due to the lifestyle that we have chosen to live in the past 2 and half decades.
